If I had $3k in the bank and $6k in debt, I'd be very wary of moving any of it around. What happens if your car breaks down and you need $1k in repairs? Your CC limit only goes so far. And if you don't have a car, I'm sure you can think of

What would it take to make Veebot not look like a horrifying machine to anyone with "needle phobia"? Maybe if it automatically dispensed candy when it was finished?

I've been using FastMail.fm for around 4 years now. It's absolutely worth the $40/yr. I manage a lot of email accounts, and FastMail lets me define rules to file emails from different accounts into different folders, and automatically set m

Just an aside, Foxit[1] is much faster than Acrobat, and I'm pretty sure FireFox can open Foxit inside a tab. [1] http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/

Where are you located / are you limited to a certain area? http://www.meetup.com/bostonphp/events/43895122/ Not sure what the details are, but there's a PHP conference coming up in Boston in August.

I was friends with a blind web developer years ago - I remember him telling me that he had the computer "speaking" so fast that a tech fixing his laptop thought it was broken.

I'm not sure what angle they'd play with advertising, but I think "build a fighter plane!" sounds a lot more exciting to a kid than "improve the fuel efficiency of passenger planes!"

I used a ThinkPad T400 for about a year and a half before getting a Macbook Pro. The ThinkPad is junk compared to the MBP. Sadly, it's still one of the best Windows business laptops you can get.

Make sure you take the time to spec out any task that will take more than a couple of days. Nothing is more frustrating than going from working on well-defined projects to a stream of "arbitrary" requests every other day.

Thanks! They're arranged mostly arbitrarily, but I put the "large" logos at the bottom since I was originally hoping to have a 64x64 icon for every link. For location, I was thinking of just having an input where you could type your locatio

Why not focus on writing your own (lightweight) framework or looking for a more long-term project? Maybe try using something like Symfony to mix things up? Try to create an ecosystem where you can spend time creating new code instead of try

From the perspective of a f/t telecommuting programmer - a commitment form sounds awful. We usually have a few short meetings each week to review what's being worked on, and to bring up any new tasks. When you have a team as small as you're

Not sure how much space the leftover candy takes up, but twice a year (maybe once in the summer and once before the winter holidays) you could sell $24 boxes of random leftovers from the year. Would be great for new subscribers. You could e

Have you considered offering a second "chocolate"-focused subscription? Things like green tea pocky, sweet potato kit kats, or even those little pocky-style mushrooms. After reading your post I signed up for the $13 sample, but $24/mo is a

From the perspective of a software developer - I'd say once a month, and make it very clear that you're looking for multiple developers, not a replacement for someone who got hired&fired since the last posting.

Start researching the technology it takes to run a site like Facebook. There's a reason companies of their size are looking for Masters/PHDs.
