That's a good point. Amazon's "Price for Both" is literally the price for both. Personally I always assume the "Price for Both" will be at a discount, even though it rarely is.

I wonder what the ROI would be if they hired graphic designers to make some really snazzy thumbnails for each item? By extension, I'd be really interested in how effectively they could push extra items, similarly to how Amazon does it. * "A

Is this an issue of how much bandwidth is costing NetFlix or something? I pay Comcast for a 105Mbps connection, I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to stream 5Mbps or even 5MBps. As an aside, my PS3 Slim's wireless card is really subpar

I'm guilty of this, and still debating redesigning my landing page without having enough traffic to even properly A/B test the current one.

I feel the same way re:subsidizing, and honestly if a website's ads are so bad that I would consider using an ad blocker, I would rather just avoid the site altogether.

I had a laptop stand I was using for a couple weeks.. I found that it helped my productivity when multitasking, but when it came time to churn out code, it was harder to focus. Even then, I was only standing for a few hours at a time.

HN itself is the biggest bottleneck, IMO. A few days after the thread has been posted, it gets paginated, usually into 3 or 4 pages. Assuming you Cmd+F/Ctrl-F for a couple keywords (remote, state, city), you end up having to do 10+ searches

Hi all. I just launched EasyEndorse about a week ago, as a bootstrapped solo founder. I'm happy to field any questions/suggestions, and you're more than welcome to email me directly. I'm initially targetting small B2C companies (restaurants

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but there were hardly any posts on there last I remember. That, and most jobs are posted in the monthly whoishiring[1] thread now. [1] http://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=whoishiring

Unless Heroku has changed, you absolutely should not host a production site using a free account. If your site doesn't get any traffic for a certain period of time, they spin down your instance. This means that the next subsequent view will

Do you really see all that many paid PHP components? I've run across very few. Most of PHP's quality code tends to be wrapped up in frameworks, and anyone new to programming or PHP in general has the unfortunate task of dealing with somethi

I've been happy with Rackspace Cloud - their support is fantastic even for non-managed accounts. http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/public/servers/pricing/ They start at ~$16/mo, and only charge for outgoing bandwidth, but 200gb/mo can get a

I sent in a support request last March and received the same response. It's really a bummer, since I feel less "secure" using them without knowing that I can reach someone if something unfortunate happens.

Is Dropbox really that cheap? I'm paying $10/mo for a 100gb quota. The next plan up is $20/mo for 200gb, which I don't currently need. They're free to raise their prices, and until they do, there's absolutely no reason to consider them "che

Just filled out the survey. Small gripe: under "benefits" it was unclear if I should consider whether each feature is currently valuable, or would be valuable if I had it. Edit: I'd also like to second DanBC's comment about super easy e
