After getting sufficiently pissed off at jekyll (I'm not a ruby developer, so dealing with ruby related tooling is a pain every time I need to) I realised that what I wanted was literally just a basic templating engine. I already use o

Something I never understood about us taxes - from reading discussions online, it seems like everyone needs to file taxes at the end of every year? Here it's only self employed, or people with rental or investment income. In a normal e

Wow, did not know this, I'm going to go and have a deeper look at it now. Thanks to all in this comment thread!

There's some argument to be made about bookkeeping and (maybe? I'm not sure) an extra level of indirection with shared_ptr, but the cost of unique_ptr is literally zero.

Just tried both of these. Passiv requires me to link a broker account, and doesn't support my broker. M1 is US-only. Both non-starters. I just want to enter my trades by hand, I don't need a fancy auto-buy broker integration.

100% agree, I started getting very suspicious of this article at that point, and then gave up completely when they said 30% of their assets were "invested" in virtual NBA trading cards. This is not good advice.

There are various "ethical" indexes, but pretty much none of them exclude google or facebook (which would be at the top of my cut-list). I want to do my own individual research on each company, and come to my own conclusions.

1000% agree. "Ethical" is not restricted to "no guns, alcohol or cigarettes".

Oh man, this is actually exactly something I want. I want to invest in the s&p 500, like an index etf, but I want to filter out companies which I don't agree with ethically. I also want to look at my custom index's performance

So are there any real world instances running? Can we actually use this today? If not, is there a roadmap for opening one?

This is why I think the snap store is going the right direction. My web browser and my kernel don't need the same level of attention.

I've found that git subtrees are a much better option. Good intro here: https://www.atlassian.com/git/tutorials/git-subtree They're like submodules, but you can edit them and they're embedded in your

#1 best jetbrains idea feature IMO - save on focus lost. Just alt tab into your app, or into your terminal to git commit, no worrying about "did I remember to ctrl-s".

The main thing is that if you knew a program supported it, you could have your shell autocomplete arguments. I know there are tools for doing this from man pages, but they're basically using heuristics, and don't always work. Woul

I got excited thinking this was going to be a tool for expressing grammars for arguments to command line tools in a parseable format, maybe even with a code generator attached.

I dunno man, ssds are pretty basic fare these days. They have been standard for about a decade now. If an employer refuses to give their developers ssds to work off, that's a massive sign of disrespect IMO.

Because macs are terrible platforms for games. They have been very low end for a long time (m1 notwithstanding), and they have been killing off opengl, the only cross platform rendering API (before vulkan, which they don't support). Al
