Check out Privacy.com for card generation. You can set monthly/yearly/all-limits, pause and cancel cards, create single-use cards, etc. And their virtual cards accept any billing information. As a result I don’t bother unsubscribi

It is my opinion that these sorts of statements are devoid of value and don’t contribute to the conversation. Good for Reddit. My grandpap always said the same of unions. Great if you’re in them. Terrible if not. I have similar thoughts on

This all comes down to one phrase I’ve grown to hate. “It must be measurable”. Maximizing revenue over the next 12 months is measurable. Creating an enduring product that will slowly grow revenue and be around forever is _not_ measurable. S

> Button-toggled voice notes in the iPhone Notes app Is this a physical button or on-screen? I’ve been rewatching Twin Peaks recently and would love a high-tech implementation of Cooper’s tape recorder.

Go to college and get an education so you ~~can make a good living~~ have the opportunity to work more hours. I understand this should hopefully help low wage earners that are taken advantage of. That’s great. The US, my country, could real

Why do we (the US) insist on doing everything our own way? And usually worse. The sentiment behind loan forgiveness is great but it doesn’t address any of the core problems. This will only happen again. Many other first world countries have

Tangentially related but I saw some similar comments in the original thread [0] so hopefully this is alright. How does one move to Europe? Or how does one begin the process? I’m an average engineer and only speak English. Clearly I’m not th

I’m so tired of these culture wars. The whole censorship of the original emoji was incredibly pointless and stupid. Now we have to rehash this all over again and I’ll have to hear about it. And this time, with Elon behind it, people are goi

The original title is more clear: The AI-focused COPIED Act would make removing digital watermarks illegal. I thought the headline was indicating it would be illegal to remove watermarks from content generated by LLMs.

Reflectacles[0] claims to do this. I haven’t tried them but I do keep the page bookmarked for someday. Certainly not as low key as something “invisible” like makeup, but I can see them being useful. If they work. [0]: https://www

These days I explicitly go out of my way to find and run native programs. Sure they usually require a purchase but (1) devs need to eat too (2) the software is usually higher quality and (3) it’s ultimately cheaper than buying more cool har

It really takes effort to scrub oneself of big-tech. I don’t know how non-HN-types are supposed to do it. My weak point has been Apple Photos. It “just works” for me and I really appreciate that it does all processing for faces, cats, etc.

Thank you for this. I, alongside seemingly everyone else, get frustrated that the OS doesn’t have more complex features. But for most of our moms, it’s probably better for them. The rest of us have macOS, Linux, etc.

Different people have different preferences. This is something I never see brought up in these debates. There is no definitive better option. This comment section demonstrates that. Some people are motivated by a sure thing for less reward
