There are permits required to run a lemonade stand and a bike shop. Who do you think sets the rules for those permits?

Ryan is one person and not involved with node anymore. Deno also has many mistakes IMO, so fine to agree to disagree on this one.

This limitation is probably the most important thing for me. We need the ability for companies and large orgs to fund projects or GH orgs, not just individuals. I setup my GH sponsors specifically to raise fund for the projects I work on,

This is me. I have been in the beta for almost a month now and not gotten any sponsors. I have talked with many in the JS community who have proof of this ( https://github.com/feross/funding/issues/15#issueco

If you are a programming beginner or want a deep dive which teaches a bunch of unrelated topics, this is a great article! But, it took me longer to skim this article than to setup my first action. This is making things way more complicate

Ha, omg this is impossible to read. Using async/await here would go a long way to helping. But honestly this just seems like a work in progress, so code cleanliness and ability for others to read and contribute might not be the focus.

I actually see someone calling it a bubble as a good sign. Media outlets are typically looking for stories like this, and even if most of this is close enough to true, it is a new industry and has tons of room to grow.

If anyone is looking for a javascript specific solution, I maintain a module originally written (and abandoned) by TJ. $ npm i migrate https://www.npmjs.com/package/migrate

I was not hired via referral. They reached out because they were using a node module I had written. Not sure how common that is, but tbh I think any general characterization of the hiring practices of such a large org is bound to be wrong

I mainly write js but our team maintains a scala app as well. It is much more of a polyglot company with a history of java (I have only been here 1.5y so this is from hearsay and my expirence, not a definitive source).

This is the sad state of most content sites. I usually am fine with it as well, but not when I get loud ads where I cannot tell what it is coming from. That is the straw that breaks the camel's back for me.

Wonderful, thanks!! Edit: is there info on who runs this? I would love to know more about this site but it doesn't have info links or anything that I could easily find.

I think any user should be responsible for vetting their tech choices. Why would the author put a disclaimer instead of fixing the issues? In this case, the project is clearly too new/unstable/insecure to use in any real sense.

Give people a useful tool (npm) and they will muck it up. This is both the best and worst part of the general node ecosystem. The issue is people saying things like "that's just node". It is not node, it is the ease of use

Seems like your fix[1] for this is a bit fast. You are already importing `path` in that file. Also, you can do this with just one `path.relative`. Lastly, the url package method you are using is deprecated[2]. [1] https://gith

This is nothing to do with node. This is poor programmer decision making. You can build great node apps with a real minimalist approach. Holding up projects which pull in half of npm as "the world of node" is like holding up a

Lol, if the setup on the FE takes hours to fiddle something is wrong with the choice of tooling. I don't use webpack, so I guess I am just spoiled?

It amazes me the amount of advertising dollars funneled into advertising to users who are not even allowed to use the website (those under 13).
