I call my wife Farmer Pixel because she's never off Farmville. I've tried to get her to go out in the garden, but no avail!

Thanks for the answer. I just got round to trying it. It's awful. From the first screen onwards, it's everything that the iPhone is trying to leave behind. Clunky, unresponsive navigation, non-standard user controls. Utterly wretched. Delet

Chinese labor is competing and slaughtering the US machines. There was a story on feats of Chinese manufacturing on YC not long ago, showing a guy sewing Chumby covers in 4 seconds flat. No machine could do that. If you go look at HobbyCity

So, hypothetically, wage parity might be achieved by Chinese workers making 5 - 7x more than they do now, whilst American worker would make 5 - 7x less . Obviously prices in the US for healthcare, food and housing need to come down somewha

Since Opera Mini apparently uses an intermediary cloud server, how does it handle ajax-heavy sites? I'm thinking of sites that update every second or so.

Yes, the books are excellent, great reads, though the first one as you say is the essential one. Once you read these, you will start seeing 'Data Ducks' everywhere! I speak from experience.

Excellent stuff. I notice there are some questions about how to make money. One may be to position yourself as a way to get PDF reports generated from phone apps, in which case you may want to do per app licensing and provide facilities for

Excellent article. I support an iPhone app and occasionally get emails where the person is obviously not expecting a real person to read it. Almost without exception, I write as nice an email back as possible, and usually people are disarme

The only way I've found to address this issue is a healthy diet, rich in fiber. For me that means: - homemade brown bread - lots of vegetables - drinks lots of non-sugary fluids - cut out the candy and sweet baked goods

We had a party on Saturday and someone brought a couple of tubs of potato salad / pasta salad. You'd think these might be a bit starchy, or contain fat, but be basically pretty healthy right? (It does have salad right there in the name) P

From my possibly simplistic understanding: Insulin resistance is a factor in Type 2 diabetes, which wrecks the body's ability to handle glucose. Once you get to this point, damage to body systems starts to snowball, obesity, kidney failure

What kind of problems did you have? One of the strengths of Clojure is that you can develop in the repl / notepad with essentially just jline and a valid java install. I worked like this for a while, but have recently moved to TextMate, now

I don't think this is blindingly obvious. I always imagined something 'called us', then just returning from that would be enough to get everything shutdown. Certainly when I wrote 6502 code, or 68000 code, I would just return. On the iPhone

For those on Macs, there's a TextMate bundle here: http://nullstyle.com/2008/11/09/ann-clojure-textmate-bundle-... Works well, though it contains its own clojure install, which may not be ideal. It looks fairly hackable though. If you do

Here's a recipe for living on one 'median' income: * Pay your cars off. * Get down to < $300 / month on food. * Stop eating out except on special occasions. * Turn the thermostat up / down in summer / winter. * Cap mortga

Yeah, we've been spreading the word. I'm not a big guy, but I was getting kinda burly. I made one change, which was eating only half a Chipotle burrito bowl for lunch, instead of the whole thing. That ONE CHANGE dropped me 10 - 15 pounds. N

As I commented elsewhere in the thread, people will avoid situations they are uncomfortable with. If app store searches fill up with sex apps, then less people will be interested in searching and buying.

I think Apple's mistake was to permit adult content in the first place. My wife was looking through apps the other night, and she was appalled to see the number of sex apps showing up in searches. Apple needs to maintain a reasonable tone i

Like the first Mac, the iPhone is the first phone good enough to criticize. Sure, plenty of limitations, but overall, the iPhone completely redefined how well a phone could work, and has massively expanded what people expect from their phon
