Compared to a typical European car, such as the Diesel Passat station wagon, the Prius IS a joke. It has worse fuel consumption, carries less, and has a massively more complex drive-train. Sure, the Passat is a bit of a slug, but light-foot

There's nothing to stop you trivially scripting either of these. I expect Thunderbird or Mail can run scripts on incoming email, so you could have a printing, archiving, grepping, forwarding email account, if you liked.

Too bad that site takes ages to load up an iPad specific theme which makes the site slower and harder to use. This is getting to be a real irritation when trying to read sites on an iPad. I'm hoping Erica Sadun can be persuaded to extend he

So-called 'trend growth' has been fueled by fossil fuels, with massive increases in the ability to exploit oil fields quickly, occurring since the 40's. Basically, civilization is a heat engine, where prosperity, power, industry is directly

Here's a great Coding Horror article on shrinking Windows XP. Jeff got it down to a 243 MB compressed image, for an XP virtual machine. http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/07/creating-smaller-vi... Really cool stuff. edit: s/XP/NT/

They already have a lightweight core running, they've reduced usage for idle machines, and they've had vx in server versions for ages. Hopefully it will stay, at least in the higher end consumer packages at least. Definitely looking forward

That looks great. It would be great to have a baby mode, where tapping the screen did a random coloring, and maybe played a sound. My daughter isn't two yet, but she really likes to swipe at photos and make them go from side to side.

Yes, this is the proverbial 'possum under the floor' problem. No one really has the power to change any of this stuff, without buy-in, and relinquishment of power across a shitload of teams. Ergo, it can't be done unless BillG or SteveB per
