Do you honestly believe they were sitting there thinking "Hmm, well, I could buy a family rice for several days, or I could register this amusing but ultimately useless domain name..."? Don't bring false dichotomies into arguments. They di

In a C4 talk a few years ago, Wil Shipley said that he's asked things like "How can I launch my app to 10,000 people on day one?". The answer is "Well, you can't." If you haven't put the time into creating a reputation (either for yourself

"That more people are entering than leaving doesn’t. It’s what logicians call “vacuously” true. It’s true, but meaningless. It tells us nothing. And the same is true of overeating as an explanation for why we get fat. If we got fat, we had

I wouldn't claim the jargon file as an authoritative source, but the entry on music claims that at least one study found a correlation between music skills and programmers.

In the iPhone HIG, there's a section on bringing a desktop application to iOS[1]. The entire HIG spends a fair amount of time talking about the different needs of mobile and desktop users. Until Apple releases a document tailored for them

“Reports of the death of the Web have been greatly exaggerated,” Mr. Beckstrom said. “It’s going to be alive and kicking for a long time.” Of course reports are greatly exaggerated. For something like 'the web is dead', which is essentia

I had to sound out Snapalytics the first time, but other than that I like it. AppThrob sounds like it'd be better for an app review website. "AppThrob, Apps You Love".

Practice. Run through it until it's smooth. Great demos that look like they're off the cuff are actually the result of hours of rehearsal. Your passion will shine through, but only once you're so comfortable running through the demo that

If you're looking for a boolean answer, there isn't one. Web apps are superior for the reasons you mentioned. As a developer, it's just easier to deploy a web app. That being said, I think you ought to be thinking about the users experi

That looks fantastic. The current situation with climbing guidebooks varies between out-of-date, having to buy a new guidebook for each area you climb in, and passing around photocopied informal guides. I know this isn't meant to be a ful

Perhaps if anything that wasn't just a 'wrapper match' could be farmed out to Mechanical Turk. You could charge a monthly fee high enough to cover the identification, and increase your profit margin as your recognition gets better.

It doesn't seem to. I put three videos on: an avi, an rmvb, and an mpg. Only the avi is showing in the app, and it's only playing audio properly, though it does generate a thumbnail correctly for the menu. (Edit: wrote 'auto' instead of '

Other than cookies and local storage, none of those would be effective on iOS. Flash and Silverlight are out, and given the lack of a plugin architecture and no user installed fonts, fingerprinting wouldn't work past browser version.
