Quantcast has no asyncronous tracking. If their servers are running slow at all, their javascript will block your site from loading, even if you have it at the bottom. I know this because it happened to us. We contacted them about it but th

How long did it take to get to the halfway decent (and I do mean halfway) browser that it is from the rewrite? How long would it have taken to get there /without/ the rewrite? EDIT: If you're going to downvote at least explain why...

I'm not too familiar with CouchDB in particular or what exactly a "document" is. Let's say I have a site about books. I need to be able to look up books by author, title, isbn and users who have it in their catalogue. Is there a way in Couc

I stopped reading when he said consistency is in your hands (with noSQL). Since you have to manage relationships, and doing so requires several round trips to the datastore, and generally doesn't involve transactions, what happens when inse

I also work both. I rotate or "flip" my schedule about every week and a half. I find working in the evening to be my most productive time, but coming in early is wonderful for collaboration and coordination. By splitting my schedule I'm abl

We are still suffering from the effects of a developer who employed #1 throughout the codebase. We have both Object and Collection, and bypassing his classes results in reduuced memory usage by a factor of 10 and improved performance by a f

Shouldn't this effect of amplification of RF waves be directly measurable? Why write a speculative article about it without doing any tests?

If you disable 3rd party flash cookies, that should eliminate all unwanted tracking. Meanwhile, flash cookies are useful for other things: Pandora uses them to keep you logged in forever, even if your session on the server dies (unless you

It's possible to make that work. It works on http://listen.grooveshark.com on OS X in most browsers, it's just a matter of embedding the swf in wmode=window and writing some JS to force the browser to send the scroll events through to the

The scrolling works just fine for me in Firefox. Each browser implements scroll events a bit differently though, so you have to implement some hacks to get around that. I think you're forgetting that Flash has replaced HTML for many thing

Real question: if user agent sniffing is wrong, what is the proper way of determining whether certain behavior will be buggy in a given browser? Example: every browser sends mouse events (esp relating to scolling) to plugins differently. We

If only SOAP wasn't the face of RPC to most people, you probably wouldn't get downvoted so hard. ;) SOAP is horrible but REST is worse. JSON-RPC is elegant and simple. I wish more people would use it.

I'm 29 and I've never subscribed to a paper. Even if the only way to get news was to pay for it, I'd pay for a digital subscription of some kind before I'd ever consider subscribing to a paper. Newspapers are wasteful, messy, and of course

Yeah, entirely depends on the barista, unfortunately. Oddly if I ask them to leave room and then ask for soy after they make my drink they have no problem giving it to me...but all this is way too much interaction to just get a damn coffee.

I did an AMA on Reddit and have to admit it was pretty fun. As a programmer, I was a bit disappointed that the questions were not very technical or in depth for the most part. I'd bet that the AMA questions would be a lot more relevant here

Actually I'm told that the reason flash doesn't get the HTTP headers is actually due to the browser API, not Flash itself. In that case Silverlight shouldn't have access to them either unless it bypasses the browser altogether for communica

Additionally, aren't there tools available that can convert your CSS to an optimized form? If so you can always write it for readability, but "compile" it for release to a more performant arrangement.
