It would make sense if it is, I imagine most services have an excess of incoming bandwidth for the same reason we do, we just have even more of it as a % because we serve bigger files. But yeah I have no idea what pricing for incoming bandw

OTOH, they may not actually care what your name is; it's probably less uniquely identifying than your FB ID.

That was a joke. Our site and many others have explicit ways to get a non-ajax URL for sharing, but it is of course more convenient and more natural in a browser to just grab from the URL bar. It's unfortunate for us but not remotely unexpe

I love this one, Improve Code by Removing It: http://programmer.97things.oreilly.com/wiki/index.php/Improv... Looking at my git stats, I've deleted about 20% more code than I've ever written (in fact I've deleted more lines than all but o

Yeah, the links in the wild are the problem. Users have a habit of copying URLs from the URL bar, unfortunately. I think Google could have done this better; they could have made it so all ajax URLs are crawlable (standard robots rules apply

I prefer BZ over most other bug tracking solutions I've seen. It's ugly but that's fixable.

Tired of all the pedantry surrounding REST, but hate SOAP? JSON-RPC FTW.

I mentioned this to Spolsky already but depending how you want to count servers (web servers or all front facing servers or all servers in your infrastructure?), we have 10-20 servers servicing 350 million page views per month. That is of c

Cookies suck for that sort of thing because they are sent over the wire with every request.

Interestingly, we will be doing that soon as well. Care to share your experiences?

Ha, I assumed this was going to be an article complaining about Alternative PHP Cache, not the UPS company, and I was going to make a joke about how perhaps with caching the servers would have been able to handle the load.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_1-litre_car#Producti... Volkswagen approved a limited production by 2010. However, production has been delayed until 2013. The initial price is still unknown.

That story reminds me of my own heater core troubles. I had an old car that sprang a leak in the heater core, dumping antifreeze all over the inside of the car. The cost of having someone replace the heater core and "do it right" was more t

I wish they would make it possible to do the whole bit with "pretty" urls. Example: Users go to: /#/abc Google goes to /abc and they both see the same content. Obviously you'd need some way to tell Google that your site follows this scheme
