Tangentially related, but I'd love a list of links to places where you can export your personal data (eg Google Takeout).

I setup Home Assistant with the Raspberry Pi Bluetooth module to detect when my fiance and I were home or away (to turn on/off lights, turn off WeMo switches to the curling iron that my fiance always forgets). After a few weeks of forg

This disappointes me. I finally got my home backup system setup to my liking, and it's super simple and requires little to no effort on upkeep: 1. Google Photos synced to Google Drive. 2. Google Backup & Sync installed on the compu

I've been considering a move to Japan. My pay would likely be several tens of thousands of dollars less (still very good, relative to the market but less than what I could command in a Western market), but it's also an opportunity

Serious question - what does detaching a thread in HN do? Because I still see it show up in the main comment section.

I'm in the same boat. Just switched away from Gmail and Chrome. Love my Pixel 2 XL for its astonishing camera, but very seriously considering a switch to the iPhone.

I've been wanting to switch from Gmail for a while, just to try something new. I like the concept of ProtonMail (that my email is supposedly encrypted at rest and accessible only by me) but honestly the conversation here steers me away

Are you objecting to the article because you feel the title is misleading (i.e. it actually does contain math), or because you don't think MCMC can be explained without math? I actually felt it was a halfway decent description of MCMC,

I always felt it was the other way around - using MOOCs or online tutorials makes applying machine learning to business problems in practice a whole lot easier. But in terms of inventing new algorithms, deeply understanding the theory and o

It's actually become somewhat hilarious to me. Like you said, the data science label is being applied quite liberally (no judgment, I'm not the world's authority on how it should be applied), so here you have companies paying
