Oh yeah, just because I don't like certain tech doesn't mean other people do! ... but I still think all-in-one devices are better[1] :) [1]if you consume music just like me, and don't really enjoy the deeper aspects of collec

You know what was an oligopoly? The original music services we used in the early aughts. The *vast majority* of music being bought and downloaded in the wild west days of PMP's was from iTunes. And I think you would be surprised to see

Hottest of takes : A shitty music app on my phone like Spotify is 1000x more convenient than a dedicated music device will ever be. As a society we already processed and answered this question in the late 00's. PMP's (heh, remembe

Good summary! I think the core of what you talk about is a fundamental difference between a 21st and 20th century OEM. 20th century OEMs see software as a not only a hassle, but something that is isolated in discrete components and thus abl

For the Tacoma, you made a good decision. The auto in that thing is the single worst programmed automatic transmission I have ever encountered. But that doesn't just automatically apply to all OEM's. There are plenty of autos that

It is interesting how it evolved that way. As individual components were computerized (ABS, TCS, TCM's, ECM's, etc.), there was no real point at which it made sense to centralized things. Now, with the silicon shortages, and the e

I would consider knowing when things are 'good enough' is a core skill in software engineering too. There's always time to take another swing at it later. Nothings perfect

Yeah I have the same opinion. I have played way way too much DF, and new graphics aren't going to get me back into it. I just want to be able to ward off FPS death until I have at least 1000 dwarves and a giant magma moat

Amazing after years of complete neglect, Tarn is focusing on the UI/UX. He used to be completely opposed to any sort of UI work, often talking about how the SDL code was a complete black box that he had not written.

Not surprising, wiring harnesses are incredibly difficult. The big OEM's still have issues with them. Also title is wrong, there is an update at the bottom of the article : > The recall applies to 1,117 vehicles that have been deliv

What style of touchpad does the device have? Is it a force sensor style (macbook), hinged (most recent thinkpads), or one-big-button (also some thinkpads had this)? I absolutely despise the hinged touchpad on my thinkpad as you can't c

As an owner of 90+ year old home. Yes. It's quite dramatic how underbuilt old homes are. 2x4 joists spanning 10+ feet was commonplace. Foundations were cinderblocks holding up whole timbers. Insulation wasn't even a thing!
