I think the concerns are real. And I addressed some of what you are saying in a reply to the other comment. But I think the concerning difference in how you see the technology and how I see is due to the word "cryptocurrency". In

Um, well I'll try my best. In a way it's true that it's a solution looking for a problem and I think we are seeing novel ways to use it. I think a problem is that people still associate blockchain with "currencies"

Perhaps due to a certain naivete I enjoy almost all discussions on HN. There are few exceptions and discussions under blockchain-related posts are the a prime example. I will disclose right away that I wholeheartedly think that blockchains

US did fund the Taliban that's true. US has done plenty of meddling in external politics. I wouldn't compare Hong Kong citizens to the Taliban though. They are not an insurgency group. Hong Kong, as I understand, and I'm no e

The "these people are funded from abroad" rhetoric is employed too often by countries trying to control their population. Without hard evidence I wouldn't trust such things. I Russia, for example it's the number one way

I like hooks but here are some uncertainties that bother me. I am quiet new to React and hooks, but I am a senior dev, so I am wondering if any of this confuses others. * I sometimes have to use an empty dependency array inside useEffect to

Yeah, there are gotchas and issues with hooks and some of them are quiet common but this article does not cover those. Odd selection of "mistakes".

I think you are vastly underestimating the complexity of communication across businesses. I am not an expert in what it takes for, say, two ERP systems to sync (EY are, though). But if you have two separate companies trying to order things

Whether intentionally or not the article entrenches some narrow ideas of what blockchain is. At this point talking about Bitcoin as _the_ blockchain is an ancient narrative and does not see wood for the trees. Bitcoin fulfills a certain goa

My connections helped me little. If I just worked during that time I think I would have been way farther up on the hard metrics of career progress. Not to say that I didn't get anything out of college. The campus radio stations introdu

I do not work on a Mac or want to. So anything that praises Figma over Sketch I upvote. You might think that it's a shallow position but when a company decides to limit their product to only one platform there is a price they have to p

I am not certain why NYT published those articles but I am glad they did. I see it as exposing the dirt and muck-raking. I think it's up to NYT readers to separate what is a real ideological call to arms and what is giving bastards lik

That is a nonsensical statement. ICOs are a way to raise money. There is nothing that inherently deceitful about them. I want to be able to invest into early-stage companies and an ICO is a way.

I am not the first to point out that our issue is not the lack of resources, but the inability to direct them in a meaningful way. The idea that free-market dynamics will create the best resource allocation is just hard to believe. People w
