That's why Rust's FFI story of being the C ABI is wonderful. I've used tons of c libraries but still get to take advantage of Rust's advantages in all the new code I write.

Gah, don't do that if you value your RF spectrum. Those types of devices should be banned as they turn the untwisted electrical lines in your house into a giant set it antennas. If you have any ham radio neighbors ethernet over power i

We have 3 different codes for wind rating just within our county alone based on the exposure zone. Given some of the peak winds we see it's very much a good thing. Structural codes are fine by me, the newer energy codes are great too,

Eh, I just bought a new set of HST and hydraulic filters for our L4760 and they're anything but small. I'm sure their tinier on the B/BX line but those also have a lower flow and capacity.

That makes things worse, usually you want to less weight on the trailer. Right now I've got a 7.5k towing capacity, if a pack weighs 2-3k that cuts my towing capacity in half.

As someone who owns a long range EV I don't see trucking/towing going away soonish. Even towing marginal 6-8k loads we see ~11mpg in our efficient truck(v6 turbodiesel). The energy density just isn't there for 100mi+ trips. T

You can still find that in heavy equipment. My Kubota tractor is pretty easy to service and designed for 8-10k hours over a 30+ year lifespan. The thing is designing for that costs a fair bit, just take a look at the step from riding lawn m

Yeah, I don't really get where this article is going. All digital signals are required to publish how to decode and D-Star that was called out was designed specifically by hams. My guess is this is just a push back against pactor and t

That's awesome. One of my main complaints with wasm-bindgen is it doesn't let you pull in any C libraries(vs older emscripten path) effectively walling off one of Rusts awesome capabilities(interop with a large established ecosyst

It's only 'wrong' in the sense that physics limits the speed of DRAM memory access. If you consider engineering to be the art of designing systems within constraints then you definitely should be paying attention to cache coh

Yeah, the whole reason you have pools and arena allocators is so that you don't do small/large malloc mid-frame. Perf 101 is don't malloc during regular gameplay.

Getting a consistent latency to their edge servers is going to be tricky. Wifi for instance is completely out. All it takes is someone turning on the wrong blender/micowave/power adapter and just the smallest bit of RF pollution w

Sorry but I just don't see it. I'm used to designing systems and games that work in 100ms+ latent environments since that's what you see in production(or try mobile where it can be 2-5x that). We were doing 250ms ping times b

Depends on the company/tower. Quite a few use high gain RF links. My local WISP uses AirFiber[1] for all their backhauls, mobile can be different but nothing is an absolute. [1] https://www.ui.com/products/#airfibe

I hate mobile companies as much as anyone else but that's like saying that once you're past the hard part of software development the rest is easy. The bread and butter of mobile operators is infrastructure and spectrum licensing.

Yeah, to do higher speeds(switching cost, F) you need higher voltages (V) so your power/heat goes up by non-linear variant of F*V. Depending on what your savings are for idle power it can either make sense to run long and slow or try a
