But portability has nothing to do with whether the library is standardized. One could port any API, whether from the standard or a simpleton like me, and port it in pure C and OS calls to any environment. One could even port a better API to

C is a good language, but why does the standard library need to be in the language standard? It's perfectly possible for there to be competing modern libraries which implement everything from the stdlib which can be built completely fr

That it good evidence, but being the largest websites, they have thousands of subdomains on those domains, so they're kinda technically forced to use www.

A domain is a marketing tool as much as anything else on your web page. If customers see a "www." in the address bar, it slightly dilutes the visibility of your brand in the main domain. I believe this is more important than any t

Also, perfection and practicality do not match either, since imperative languages are the most practical for many applications. Pushing software toward perfection gives diminishing returns, and after some threshold, a company will have nega

Yes, it gives the impression that the author thinks memory allocation errors are the only type of bug. Obviously there are thousands more, so it's kind of odd.

I would certainly use a mostly-compatible Make extension/reimplementation. The issues I have with Make are very minor: the syntax clashes between indentation and condition blocks, better built-in functions for string parsing, correct h

With trivial method() functions, you could speed through that loop a million times in a millisecond.

True, but for rsync's case of setting the mtime of a file, performance of this logic is utterly insignificant.

Just remove the `static` keyword and there you go. But it's an "optimization", and avoiding previously attempted methods is the whole point of the trick. Otherwise it would be an easy and uninteresting function.

I don't like it. You should put the logic where the logic should be, so it's clear to see what was intended. typedef int (*MethodFunc)(); void doMethod() { static int methodId = 0; static const MethodFu

Wada basins exist for any number of open sets. As you could probably guess from the article, the Newton method applied to x^n - 1 gives a Wada basin of n sets. These are fun counterexamples to the claim "given three nontrivial disjoint

Eh, this only economically makes sense when the time you spend direct-licensing everyone over email is much less than the money you make from the licenses. Anything under $100 or even $500 is just too cheap to spend time dealing with all yo

Does this require resources on your server? (Apologies because I don't understand what this is.) What's to stop me from uploading 10TB of video files and using all your resources?

The title should technically be "World's Oldest Currently-Alive Torrent Still Alive After 15 Years". The first part is pretty much a tautology. This doesn't mean that the first torrent created happens to still be seeded.

I'd actually be happy if the name was changed ASAP, as it took me a couple minutes to figure out that the package was not an actual Volkswagon project. I thought the repo was extracted code from some official testing product.
