Wow, if only opioid addicts did the same thing, we wouldn't be having this opioid crisis!

Then what does "type safety at runtime" even mean? TypeScript is surely also type safe at runtime then, even if the type system is unsound: that is, after all, its whole value proposition.

Why is this bad? The customers get the same business-critical service Google is using.

Well, no, because the tradeoff with static allocation is that you need to allocate all the memory you want upfront. If you're requesting memory via dynamic allocation, you can be less wasteful by only requesting what you need and retur

The line says no such thing, in fact it says the opposite. From the project page on GitHub, Hegel wants to have zero runtime type checking and have it all be proved statically at compile time.

I don't think we should really care to probe into the details of people's lives like that, but also the WSJ clearly stated they were a woman: https://www.wsj.com/articles/intel-ex-chiefs-affair-with-emp...

Companies? They're usually scrappy nonprofits that don't have much in the way of funds, compared to the prison-industrial complex bankrolled by state governments.

This is not a social program like UBI. High speed rail is not remotely in the same category as social welfare programs, unless you really want to stretch the definition of a social welfare program.

Why are they "morally wrong"? Why can't we "legislate charity"? We already have means-tested taxpayer-funded programs that help the needy such as SNAP/TANF/EITC which fall under "legislated charity&qu

I was backing up the OP talking about the government stepping in and bringing prices under control, which for some reason you assumed must have meant violating supply and demand.

If it had enough political will do, the government could build more supply and reduce prices, no, like in Hong Kong and Singapore? There are a whole spectrum of government-directed solutions to try keep prices down that comply with supply a

It seems like this only works with dynamic typing or if you assumed every field was the same width? Otherwise you can't actually specify the widths of each of the struct fields.

I don't think that's so much self-regulation as it is the producers would probably not let them publicize something like that on TV and avoid some 3-letter agency knocking on their doors.

If you need a safe tagged union, you should be using enum: https://doc.rust-lang.org/reference/items/enumerations.html Unsafe unions are for the C-style type-punning unions, which are intrinsically unsafe.

Even if the bank is not offering recourse, there is at least a mechanism for recourse. Decentralized banking just has no recourse at all, so it really just seems strictly worse here.

Go assembly is just a slightly funny version of the target platform's assembly. At that point, you might as well just assemble for the target directly and avoid the quirks of Go's assembler.
