There is a reason why Photoshop and Garage Band are not easily connectable to other stuff through programming. Writing useful flexible APIs is incredibly hard work. And, as it turns out, Photoshop is scriptable and has a plug-in API.

Wait - so what do they do on iOS? There’s a free Spotify app for iOS. Why couldn’t they do the same on the desktop?

Well one thing they’ve done is ensure that all apps are sandboxed so that I can be sure when my mother downloads an app, it’s not going to be a vector to infest her computer.

I haven’t purchased boxed software in years, but there was never the ability to return software once it had been opened. If you realized you got the wrong application and hadn’t opened it, OK, you could return it. Otherwise it was assumed t

They already have something like this. They list the top 5 in-app purchases for an app right on its page. For example, for “Mini Motor Racing” (never played it, but it’s highlighted today), it shows that you can buy “30,000 career cash” for

But doesn’t that already happen? Didn’t we see that when the Pentium flaw was discovered? In fact, I thought there was an Excel spreadsheet you could download and run to test whether you had the flaw or not.

I actually experienced the opposite. The employees who went to heroic efforts to work long hours and “get things done” were often the ones who did the worst work that had to be cleaned up by someone else later. The people who came in on tim

While the cartoon is cute, it's wrong. I don't remain logged into services I'm not using. If I'm not doing banking right now, I'm not logged into my bank account. I don't have my browser remember my password, e

It would be really nice if there was some text that mentioned you need to have WebGL enabled if it's not. And it might be nice if there were instructions or a description of what we were seeing. Other than that, it looks really nice!

Do sites get money when they show ads but nobody clicks on them? Or are most ads today only paid if a user clicks on them? Also, do you feel compelled to watch ads on TV when you have the option of fast-forwarding through them? If not, why

It's not an ad blocker per se, but the "Reader" feature is awesome. It still downloads the ads, but will display the important content from most sites without them, and in a legible font. It's the icon in the address bar

I use AdBlock. In addition, I use Safari's "Reader" feature which shows the article without ads (but still downloads the ads and thus gives credit to the site creator for eyeballs on ads). This seems reasonable to me since I

Beyond music, videos, and books, how many people actually purchase products from their mobile devices? I know I don't, and have never seen my spouse or any friends do so, though I realize that's not a scientific survey. Also, if t

Great explanation, but wow, those animations were awful! The movement was great, but the seizure-like jump every time it hit a state was unwatchable. I had to cover them up to get through the text.

I concur. It seems like it's missing loads of history. Remember when MySpace was the juggernaut with a huge network of people? Then practically overnight they became a joke. Same with Alta Vista, and a million other companies.

Isn't that the problem with conspiracy theories? There is no disconfirming evidence ever. All evidence is either neutral or somehow confirms the conspiracy theory.
