Yes, big fan of Pressfield's work too! Wish I encountered him soner. I think one of his best points is that you can practically "navigate BY resistance" – acknowledging, addressing and leaning into it.

I particularly enjoyed this tetris-style game called Yahoo! Towers, which had powerups and a great multiplayer. I would bug my friends to learn to play it so we could all play it together. It was great. Edit: Just found a video: https:

The Ender's Game series teaches kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion. The author is a homophobe. I'll take the learnings sans the homophobia!

This is probably a function of the amount of bad news you've read over the years about people getting exploited, taken advantage of, spied on, etc. When you're a kid it doesn't even really seem like a thing.

Yep. Every time the new thing comes along (megacorp 'cities'), it breaks the old assumptions about how/why things are done ('build'). Why own a car when you can Uber everywhere? Etc.

Every time something ceases to be necessary, it turns into a bit of an art form. Consider old cameras, writing letters, painting portraits and so on. The fact that it's no longer necessary inflates its worth as a thoughtful gesture. Of

Thanks! And to riff off of the cat feet analogy, you have to be comfortable enough to let the cat come to you. You can't scare it away by getting anxious. That sort of calm comes with lots of practice.

As for marrying other people in software development, that's a really easy one: proximity, physical presence, similar backgrounds, shared group of friends, etc, etc. Dentists marry dentists. Military folk marry military folk.

Thanks so much for sharing. At 25, I've been feeling a teeny tiny version of that (I had a lot of free time in my teenage years that I frittered away, and wish I had spent it developing skills). But I realize that 10, 20 years from now
