It is a meme. I'm not sure if any of this is true and you seem to be contradicting yourself. Java is far less verbose than Go, and the compiler is leagues faster than kotlin's, graal's native compiler, probably most other lan

Its like Java 5 mashed with some C# and then they've added their own syntax changes on top for custom salesforce things.

It’s not hard. I’ve done it in neovim and vscode. Evoking Gosling as if his opinion matters more when he isn’t involved in Java made my comment relevant.

Yeah, I don't know, the argument here I think is just dated if I'm interpreting it correctly. There's nothing there in Java that forces you to make classes that are actions or verbs. You could do the same in any language that

It just doesn't work. Lots of known classes don't present anything.

Personally I don’t think Gosling is relevant to Java in 2024. It’s completely different from when he was involved.

I honestly did not find that blog to be a compelling argument. Maybe something more recent or more serious would help explain better.

No body wants to do fentanyl though. People want to safely do Cocaine or MDMA without dying from fentanyl.

The banning of hard drugs hasn't seemed to work long term either. Do you think they have incentives to quit now? It doesn't seem so to me. People want to do drugs. They're fun.

It's everything to do with the libraries people pick and not Java the language. Java the language can be extremely concise and expressive. Stop picking Spring and Java becomes fun again.

I just don't want to live in that world of colored functions and the amount of sync -> async changes I'll have to review from the bottom up every time IO gets stuffed into the middle of somewhere.

Of course if you want to be pedantic. But no one is writing these. 99% of all code is going to use collections from the standard library.

Personally the functional zealots are what put me off of Scala. I’m a firm believer that you need to use the appropriate style for your problem; oo, functional, or procedural. I also really like exceptions and don’t want to go in Result hel

Guice is honestly the worst DI container I’ve ever used. It has no life cycle support and you have to hack around all of its features. Id take any of the popular ones over it. Spring/Avaje/CDI. Most likely Avaje since it most easi

I tried to use swing a year or so ago. It wasn’t a great time. I’d probably go with JavaFX or compose multi platform if I did it again.
