It's not really unique to Rust. Scala and Java both support this out of the box.

Java has that. It's just not the default choice because there is no default choice like in .NET. The options I know of: QueryDSL, jOOQ, Ebean with generated query beans.

This is definitely all just a learning curve on how to do this. None of this is accurate at all. - IntelliJ knows exactly what version of Java you want to run and develop against. - Async is also trivial. Just fire off a virtual thread. - i

Sounds a lot like just using functions. I do that a lot if there is only a single function from a type I need. I’m yet to decide if that’s a mistake or not.

Most of them are all builds of OpenJdk source code. IBM's OpenJ9 is the only independent jdk that I know of, it is a whole different virtual machine implementation + OpenJdk's Java standard library code.

In reality, they need support in order to point liability towards Oracle when something goes wrong. Enterprises like having the ability to shift blame. "Yes we know its down, we have a support ticket in with Oracle."

Most of us just use whatever the cloud provider we're using provides. For local builds and desktop apps I like to use Azul Zulu though.

It's definitely the right choice for Typescript. You could have gone the Scala route and used [] for generics, but that is so heavily used in ts/js as arrays it would not have made any sense.

Gradle replacing maven seems like a stretch. Maybe on Android. But everywhere else Maven is still going strong.

For me: winget still is missing critical tools that I need, most notably maven. I've also found scoop extremely easy to contribute too. I also don't need to worry about it pulling packages from the windows store or running install

The only issues I have when developing natively on Windows are when other developers on macOS don't use cross-platform tools (bash scripts). Scoop is a great package manager, and with windows-terminal + powershell you can't really

Right that solves the problem if you can block. But in applications that are async everywhere, like a web app, you end up having to mark everything as suspend all the way up the chain.

There’s lot of programming models that don’t require async or it’s complexity. Not everything is a web server that needs to serve 100k requests.

I don’t see how. Only suspending functions can call other suspending functions. You still end up having to mark your call stack all the way up.

The standard http client doesn’t have as great of UX as other community libs. Most of us (including me) don’t like to use it. That being said, imo you can’t call something equivalent when doing a bunch of spring magic. This disregards that

Gradle has faster builds due to the build daemon it uses and it has a better CLI interface. Starting a new project is just: gradle init. Some people use it just because XML == bad too.

I don’t think Python, a general purpose scripting language; and PowerShell, a shell, are going for the same things. They have different goals and by your definition every other tool is a “big miss” because they are not Python. I have never
