Don't you think a narrow view of the world is this idea that you should be able to use one tool to debug everything? It seems like you want GDB (and the unix's where it runs) to be the entire platform.

Except you can. Remote debugging is a huge feature.

> With respect, at two months, you're still in the throes of the learning curve, It shouldn’t take 2 months of full time programming to beat the learning curve.

Checked exceptions could still work across lambdas. Scala is doing research there: https://docs.scala-lang.org/scala3/reference/experimental/ca...

When people talk about GC performance they’re not talking about using memory efficiently. They’re talking about how fast the GC can allocate and how long it will stop the world when it needs to collect. In both of these areas you won’t find

Go code is far from concise. Java is more expressive than Go in almost every way.

You need to be able to write Scala to use mill. It’s a non-starter for every single Java developer.

I'd rather deal with 50s of lost time due to Maven than hours of lost time dealing with Scala.

There was talk of the graal jit replacing C2, but native image will never replace HotSpot.

The ?.let syntax is terrible. I don’t see how anyone thinks it’s better than doing a normal if != null check.

Please stop lying to yourself. You know damn well eating a plant and an animal are completely different things. You wouldn’t be saying these things if the aliens came and harvested your children for food.

Scala really had potential. But I really think they pushed away the average developer and with Scala 3 fractured their ecosystem even more. I personally wish the community had stayed true to the vision of fusing object and functional progra

You implemented this much more verbosely than needed sealed interface Vehicle { record Truck(int loadCapacity) implements Vehicle {} record Car(int numberOfSeats, String brandName) implements Vehicle {} }

Ah my mistake. It’s been at least 5 years since I’ve written it. I’m honestly surprised that JS has moved no where on it considering all of the fancy things they’ve been adding.

I don’t think you need to work in absolutes here. There are plenty of games that do not need to render at 240hz and are capable of handling pauses up to 1ms. There’s tons of games that are currently written in languages that have larger GC

What language are you using that doesn’t have match? Even Java has the equivalent. The only ones I can think of that don’t are the scripting languages.. Python and JS.

And if you want rust style enums in Java you can use sealed types.
