I think you're widely mistaken if you don't think Java is a platform. The VM and language are intertwined. The VM explicitly knows about things like records, language constructs, and idioms from Java. Java sets the direction of th

Just been screwed too many times I guess. I do like it more than Kotlin though. The language is powerful.

There is no chance that Kotlin will replace Java. Java is the platform and Kotlin does change semantics. They’ve developed their own features that don’t align with the platform. Suspend functions vs virtual threads, data classes vs records,

Nah it’s too complex, has shipped too many breaking changes, and the community sucks.

Looking forward to seeing what error handling starts to look like in C# once they have unions. I really like domain errors being checked by the type system.

I thought dart could natively deserialize via dart:convert? It just only decodes to lists and maps, you have to manually map into classes.

Kotlin doesn’t feel right to me either. I did a portion of AoC in it this year and it was surprisingly more verbose than I expected. I think the thing I liked the least was trailing lambda syntax combined with how verbose it was to define v

Darts pretty good. It has a lot of modern features, nullable types, pattern matching, sum types, and factory constructors; some really good build tooling. It can compile fully AoT.

The whole system is flawed. We need national popular vote and a proportional representation system put in place.

I’ve been using 11 on my laptop for years. I honestly think it’s fine. I spend 99% of my time in a game or IntelliJ.

Powershell is really good. For scripting you get the whole C# standard library and can write cmdlets in C# itself.

Yes we talked about this on Reddit. I don’t think it’s impossible it’s just work that needs to be done! I really think that this aligns with the “paving the on ramp” type of stuff. Making the build tooling first class and simple will help a
