There's an old saying, I believe it was from a native American tribe (can't say for sure); "To name something is to own it."

I grew up in a small rural town in the 80's. I was one of the first kids to have a computer in that area. I was 9 years old in 1980 and had begged for one. By the time I entered high school I was just starting to learn Assembly. Our sc

I think that's a great trait. Bearded guy here, I get the same thing from certain songs. I can't hear them or sing them without choking up. I attribute it to the musician's bardic gift.

I'm from SE Texas and had a very thick accent growing up. I spent considerable effort getting rid of that accent around age 16. It's a double edged sword. I got so good at it that when I acquired a job at a newspaper in the town I

I got a take down notice from a band last year. I had posted videos of my progress on a game I was working on wherein I used an air-raid siren I got from the public domain. The band had a song called Air Raid that used the same public domai

I have a friend, ex-military, very clean cut, pretty 'normal' guy. His brother is a cop. We both grew up in the same rural area. I used to be a punk kid, crazy hair and clothes, but a good kid, definitely not a criminal. I was con

Exactly! In Texas, Austin County, back in 2005 I got pulled over for no front license plate. I was passing through on my way to Austin (which is not in Austin county). In Austin lots of people do not have front plates and it was never an is

I'm glad I'm not the only one. My father's name is the same as mine so at first I thought he was calling me, nope, robocall.

I did Apple support from 2000-2010 and I find this is a ridiculous argument. Apple constantly gives out free phones. I've given a free iPhone (5th replacement) for a guy who dropped his phone at a construction site and it was run over

Younger me hated beer. I thought it tasted awful but drank it as that was what kids did in the country. I gave up drinking after college because I just couldn't stand the taste of beer, the smell even made me nauseous. Fast forward to

If Apple can void your warranty for jailbreaking I'm sure John Deere could do the same.

Sorry, didn't mean to muddy the conversation. It's not the hardware they say is licensed, it's the necessary software used to run the machine. Either way, you don't own the entire product, only part of it, and the most e

I agree what you say should be true, but companies are trying to change the First-Sale Doctrine. Companies like John Deer say you are licensing the tech, not buying it, thus you do not own everything in the vehicle you 'bought'. S

AT least many vloggers are moving to Patreon or similar services. I've funded vloggers whose content I've enjoyed and I've seen many make a living that way. I think that's the modal we should shoot for. You build an audi

Yeah, driving into Austin at night after being on the road for hours was like this. We would see the lights of the city spread out across the horizon. It would feel so close, yet we still had an hour drive ahead of us.

Never seen it in a store. My wife is black so her brand choices in most stores are very limited. If we did ever see Lush it was just another one of those light skinned brands we tend to gloss over. But honestly we had never heard of them un

Indeed! I did support for Apple for 10 years. In the last few years I began to have nervous breakdowns and suicidal thoughts. To have to put up with abuse on a daily basis and never be able to do anything but take it takes a toll.

My wife has a small home business that ships internationally. PayPal is the best method for taking payments from her clients. She generates more revenue through that than from credit cards. Without any alternative, well, this just sucks.
