In short, even in the case of humans, which are universally (by humans) recognized as intelligent, such a process would not exhibit intelligent thought.

How would that process be the result of intelligent thought? Presumably everyone in the chain would have their own idea of what the next word/token should be. They would each try to push it in that direction using their only lever, tha

What else could it be doing? That is literally the mechanism of how a model works.

English is at best my 3rd language. I have always found the huge discrepancy between pronunciation and spelling really nonsensical (keep in mind that I even speak French). But this article really helps see all that in a new light. Nothing i

Still, large language models model language.

You don't need to prove to me that your intelligence is comparable to LLMs. I believe you.

To all commenters who think LLMs are intelligent and comparable to themselves, you don't need me to change your mind. I believe you.

Building up strawmen against LLMs will only make the hypers look more reasonable. A language model responds to inouts exactly as a model of anything else would. That is enough to explain all the "intelligence" without believing a

Claude Code's initial instructions to a model are a dump of 80kb of text. And none of it has anything to do with security. The "security" is handled by the evaluator model that sometimes denies some tool uses. I'm sure t

> It's also "out-brute forcing them." It just never gets tired. If a mathematician picks a research direction and spends a whole week on it and it doesn't pan out, they will likely be annoyed, need a break for a while

Whenever someone tell me they can be reduced to an LLM, I believe them. I see you and I believe you that you are qualitatively the same as a language model.

First, I'm SURE there are ways to send scripts from one computer to another over the internet. Second, the point isn't about a specific repo, it's the general tendency to rely on fuzzy .md files scattered all over the place.

It's a language model. It generates text.

There is such a clear lack of innovation drive in this field. Every lab just copies what the other does. One of the most baffling things to me is how the once-upon-a-time good developer instinct to make everything reusable, testable, and de

Stop wasting your time and use actual code for most of what you give an LLM to do. Make them write the code even. Anything that can be verified mechanically should be code. Only use LLMs to fill in the gaps where things are fuzzy. Don'

> For some AIME problems Opus 4.8 sometimes states the answer before deriving it. We find that the API summary does not always preserve this distinction, and can instead make the reasoning appear like a clean derivation. No surprise here

There is no good imperialist power, there is no capitalism with a human face, there will never be. The UK murdered millions in India, Ireland and all around the world in their time. The US did the same. The only reason China isn't open

From cells dividing to human generation there is a single step. Similarly a program that runs on a computer, where its only interactions are strings of numbers is the same as an entity having to interact with the world.
