Privacy is a major concern for the project, and the directors regularly meet with private and public collaborators. There are also community meetings that take place so that people in the city can ask questions and have their concerns addre

I am the lead engineer for Plenario. We act as the public API for AoT. Both projects are a part of the Computation Institute at UChicago and I work very closely with the engineers on their team, as well as with people from other partner org

I have been working with Elixir for a couple months and I just adore it! I found it easy to get up to speed and working competently in a relatively short amount of time. The ecosystem, docs and developer community are robust and getting str

When Elasticsearch rolled out a new half float type that I found to be very useful for something I was working on, I added it as a new type to the elasticsearch-dsl-py project. I've done other small contributions to other projects, but

For simple arithmetic I find that extremely confusing. I also would have guessed that the equals was an assertion for the addition.

> 6 - 1 = 5 > 6 Stopped right after the author explained that line. What benefits does this offer over LtR programming languages? I would consider debugging this as a form of punishment.

Exactly this. Every production Flask project I've seen has a massive requirements file to bolt on functionality that comes built into Django. The second I realize that I need an auth system or may potentially have a DB migration, I sel

I did, but something about Alpine rubs me the wrong way. I know it's probably irrational, but my gut always goes to Debian. I really can't justify it. Maybe I should give it a better chance.

Very cool. I'll have to give it a whirl. I haven't taken a stab at a custom image in a while. Thanks!

The downside to pipenv is that there aren't any good docker images to work with it. I've tried a few times, but I've never given enough time to learning the guts of Docker to make anything stable enough to run with it.

Twine[0] is the tool I've been using for PyPI archive management and Pipenv[1] is looking promising as the next iteration of pip. Twine makes the packaging process _slightly_ easier, although setuptools is still a bit of a pain. Pipenv

This could actually be a cool idea. It seems like the Fulton Market boom flopped and all the real estate went to condos and luxury apartments. Moving a major tech hub into the loop could have some interesting outcomes like balancing the opp

I absolutely think property owners should be able to limit their exposure to risk. I also think that security deposits are great. What I don't buy is being charged non refundable fees in place of what was once a simple deposit in the e

Or they can charge a security deposit. If my pet causes damage it comes out of that; if the cost exceeds the deposit they can demand the additional amount. That's the way it used to be - the recent trend of admin fees (pet or otherwise

I spent $200 two years ago to register my dogs to avoid non refundable pet admin fees and pet rent. It's saved me almost $5k in bullshit charges. When landlords stop gouging, I'll stop finding loopholes.

Also excellent. Someone else in this thread made a similar joke and has an all too literal response. I'm starting to think our irreverent sense of humor for our city's politics doesn't translate well.

I'm pretty sure this is a reference to the "vote early and vote often" phrase that is typically correlated with Chicago, and especially with the Democratic machine politics. Source: Chicagoan. And I found this hilarious.
