I agree, this sort of stuff (especially dialogues in Angular+Bootstrap) is still way too painful. Really hope Angular 2.0 fixes some of this madness.

Yes, some may have a genetic disposition, but they still have choices. There is a difference between substance abuse and treating a medical condition. Simply down voting people because you disagree with them isn't cool IMO. edit: Mysel

This may be the case in the US. However in the UK, doctors are scared to prescribe pain killers. As someone who suffers from chronic pain (accident early 2012), it took two years to get even close to adequate pain medication (from a pain sp

'Corporate types' have a lack of humour at the best of times, but that isn't what is going on here. It's the 1 in 100, 1 in 1,000,000 chance that the tweet wasn't a joke, but a real threat. They can't take the

You could switch "open source" with "zero-revenue business model" (not quite as catchy). This is something unique to startups, who can raise huge sums of money (with insane valuations), yet have no revenue model. Having

I think the ratio of page views vs likes would quite a telling indicator. This should mean less click bait (a great title with mediocre content), which seems to be plaguing the web these days, even HN! Having articles appear on the front pa

I know it goes against the grain, but I wish that binary json (UBJSON) had much more widespread usage. There's no reason tools can't convert it back to json for us old humans. The speed deference between working with binary strea

Having one monitor or three makes little difference if you aren't focussed. Saying that, I love the amount you can get done when you're 'in the zone'. I just wish I could sustain it.. If you haven't tried the Pomodo

Is it me, or are semaphores overrated? There seems to be so much emphasis on semaphores in textbooks & guides. Thread pools are just a footnote (if mentioned at all). They did mention them in the article, at the bottom.. Yet in the real

My first programming job was in a company like this. I was there 6 months and that made me question if I wanted to do development as a career or was cut out to be a developer. I moved into operations/ systems in another company. I grad

Treating integer values as strings, really rubs me up the wrong way. They might as well wrap boolean and null values in quotes too! Its hard to take the API seriously when they f k up some of the best parts of the json spec.

I don't use any of the languages I used in college or uni. Does mean that I wasted loads of time and money? No, the theory is much more valuable. Plus, it doesn't fall out of fashion the way frameworks do.

I'd say you're good. Some quick maths:- Even if you only use a relatively small dictionary (of 32,000 words). Just picking two words at random is a billion combinations. Throw in some different punctuation symbols, plus a 3 digit

I believe we're on the brink of a bigger change than the industrial revolution. Think Uber + self driving cars, not just for taxi's but more less every industry and sector. While for many involved in technology, this is an excitin

We've been moving in this direction for a while now, decades even. Focussing on the desired behaviour over implementation, this is especially true for low level code (managed languages, ORM's, even reducing or picking algorithms,

I was thinking how this applies to programming/ startup's too. I would say 5 is more about over-engineering, when a much more straightforward technique would work. Code is malleable, you can always come back to it.

I agree, and have no problem with a binary protocol (you always have to go down to the byte layer if you want performance networking or storage). But they could have made it much easier, just look at the spec on http://json.org

Think about what you WANT to do rather than the best paycheck. Yes pay is important, but if you spend most of your waking life working, you might as well enjoy it!

I have seen the proxy pattern being used before. It's quite nice as it create a foundation that you can build on. Requests can either be sent to the legacy system(s) or redirected to the new system (for new functionality/ fixes).

Finding talent is one of the biggest challenges facing my startup and most at the moment (and most/ all other start ups I know). I would rather hire someone who I can meet face to face most days as you just don't get the same dial
