As with my examples above (linen and dishwashing) ice machines are also notoriously difficult/expensive. They most certainly have to be cleaned & serviced regularly. When the Board of Health comes in, the ice machine is one the fir

It’s very common to rent a dishwasher. High volume dishwashers break down all the time and need very regular servicing and cleaning. At every establishment I have been associated with (wine industry) I’ve been on a first name basis with my

At least in California, restaurant and bar licenses are separate. Restaurants have to prove that a certain percentage of their sales are food related; otherwise you can’t allow anyone under 21 into the establishment.

They aren’t super difficult? Teachers, nurses, firemen, and police officers would like to have a word with you. Programming may be mathematically complex and difficult to learn, but it does not corner the market on difficulty. Try adapting

You were technically in the wrong considering that California stops are never actually legal, but it is extremely reckless to ride at 15mph on the sidewalk, especially if you’re barreling through intersections AND “salmoning” aka riding aga

There are more than a few varieties of regulations in the alcohol business. It’s such a jumbled mess, especially for interstate commerce. Check out freethegrapes.org, they are an industry advocacy group and are sure to have an ongoing lobby

Yeah Pisgah and DuPont are awesome. Lots of miles of fun out there. It’s also not inconceivable.... especially now that both my MTB buddy (and best friend) and I are both unemployed. One of the reasons I live where I do is access to the San

Starting a restaurant to get rich is dumb. Starting a restaurant because you think your great grandmothers naan is superior is not dumb. Neither is it dumb to start a restaurant because you love feeding people, or a bike shop because you lo

As a minimalist, if you’re stressing out about whether you own too many things, you’re missing the point entirely. Does that bring you right to the same place as a maximalist- do I have enough?/do I have too much?

You won’t see them while you’re hiking, because you’re making lots of noise and likely not out at the right times. Hunting , especially primitive hunting, is usually either lots of traps and snares or lots and lots of waiting.

Thanks! I love words, and Mängelexemplar is a great one. You used it to basically mean a beat up used copy, if I’m understanding correctly.

Yeah, I was laid off 3/20 (California) and applied immediately. Got a confirmation number but still haven’t heard anything else. The site was already bugging out and I made it in before the majority of people.

This might win the award for most out of touch comment today on HN. No, many people do not have enough in savings to survive a year without cash flow. I do not believe this is unique to the US. Yes, health care is largely tied to your job i

I would assume this discussion is centered on coastal American cities, where Airbnbs routinely cost well over your monthly cost per night, plus cleaning fees etc. I don’t know where you are or what average rental price is in your area, but

“Richer” is an interesting word here, with the connotations to food and pleasure. I, for one, would not find a world of robot restaurants to be a “richer” experience.
