So your argument is that anybody using Chef or Puppet, or just about any master/agent-based CM shouldn't manage systems. I guess a lot of people would be out of jobs then. There are a number of tools to "bake it" into th

Nobody is deploying Puppet (or Chef for that matter) using Ansible. You bake it into the images, use bootstrapping or any number of other ways, like cloud-config. How do you deal with dynamic resources, like automatic scaling, in Ansible? Y

How do you manage that exactly? Using the same client certificates? Client names are unique, so you can't have duplicate entries of the supposed same node.

I'm having a little trouble taking this article serious when they are talking about ancient versions of Chef, and that being a problem. If you are still on the < 0.9 version of Chef you are doing something very wrong. You already ha

What kind of "main memory" are you talking about? Regular, consumer grade memory, will have a bandwidth at least ten times faster than your 10Gb/s network interface. Change the bit to a byte and you're a little closer.

One would assume that all mobile cell towers would be a priority target. Given that they are not I think it's safe to assume that it's a goldmine for the intelligence services. Just imagine all the side channels they have access t

Ah, even cooler! What I liked about it was how transparent the whole thing was for me. I didn't have to do anything, it just sort of worked.

I don't need to do anything to connect to my providers public networks. The keys are (I'm guessing) just stored in the SIM card and I'm automatically connected when there is WiFi available. LTE being super fast and all, I don

You can actually get all that for free from Norwegian Meteorological Institute, both forecasts and observations. The only caveat is that it's all in Norwegian. Looks like that is a little intentional[1]. [1] http://om.yr.no&

Are you prepared to pay more because your time is supposedly worth more? If not, then no, you're not too rich to wait. How people spend their time and value it is subjective. Just because you can put a dollar tag to it, doesn't me

It's basically just the hardware you connect it to thats the limiting factor with optical network. Which incidentally is also why actually getting optical fibers to everyone is so damn cool.

You can do that without any subscription in the settings. Source: I found out yesterday when trying to figure out if it was possible to make YouTube not choose 4K video by default. Something that you cannot do.

I've noticed hardware accelerated CSS3, much to my despair, as it triggers the discrete gpu. It makes everything freeze for a split second, draw the page, then switch back to the integrated gpu, again with a slight freeze. And if I

It's a little different in this case, with OnLive the latency is also added to inputs. With games like CS and UT things are calculated on the client. Incidentally this is also why cheating is relatively easy: You have to trust the clie

Could you link to some of those tests? I'm finding it a little hard to believe, just with the amount of noise that is on the frequencies used.

I can only speak from personal experience, but the latency added by encoding and decoding has had to be negligible, as we already had a really high RTT. And TV's are hardly anything to benchmark against. They are designed to be cheap,

I've actually tried OnLive, and in less than ideal circumstances. I was amazed by how good it actually was, even with RTT for 120ms. Some games, like rally games didn't suffer that badly from the added latency. For things like fir

Sure is, but it's kind of impractical to always have a wire connected to your laptop. Sort of defeats the purpose of a portable computer.

A combination of that and congestion on transit providers, I think. The biggest issue with a really fast connection is that your wireless becomes the bottleneck, even if you buy really expensive gear.
