I don't think it's cutting competition -- these seem to be consumer protection. Say the popular flurry analytics tool decides they're going to perform background services to track users, you probably wouldn't even be able to opt-out to the

Given that it's sold out everywhere, I'm sure he won't have trouble finding a buyer. He could probably resell it a slightly higher markup too.

If you have a top 10 app on the app store, it's likely that you'll probably do the legwork to port the app to whatever language is necessary to run on the platform. It's probably a poor business decision to just "give up" $5000 per day of

Sounds like someone is speaking without experience here. I signed up as an app developer for the iPhone, got approved in 3 days. I wrote a new app in 4 days (a decent rss reader that pulls feeds from facebook) and the app was accepted in

I haven't seen a good 5th generation language that does visual programming well yet. Even the wonderful morphic libraries on Squeak or the ALICE virtual world still require lots of typing.

You can already buy a normal windows tablet today... it doesn't make sense why manufacturers would try to "re-release" products they already have. You can probably buy a fast dual core tablet PC today that would blow the socks off the 1.6

Too bad the joojoo and the ipad have the exact same price. It makes it really easy to do a side by side comparison. Engadget's review makes it sound like the joojoo was a product from 5 years ago -- it's heavy, slow, poor battery life, ge

I don't think there are any ycombinator company that delivers their product in snail-mail form... maybe I could start one! You can write me what web address you want to go to, and I'll mail you a print out of the web page.

The problem is that there are so few hardware manufacturers that have such attention to detail as Apple does. So if you want a really high quality laptop to run windows, macs are probably still the only way to go. I've owned dozens of Son

hah. If your brain ran BSD, you wouldn't have to sleep for the next 650 days in a row... which would mean you'd have fatal familia insomnia, death guaranteed in a few years.

So we shouldn't use python, perl, or php either? The last time I checked, all of these languages are at least 30x slower than C.

I do think you should consider adding a safe mode sooner rather than later. It's actually a bigger problem than you might think. My mentor generally won't care too much if I use a 3rd party js library as long as it doesn't interfere with

code size is rarely a good indication of productivity in a framework. There's lots of frameworks that allows the developer to have a smaller code size but few actually make it more fun for the developer to work in. I'd say jQuery is popul

how is haskell the obvious choice? The parent poster talks about clojure & python -- 2 dynamically typed languages. It's going to be a world of difference moving to a statically typed one.

freebsd can also run flash pretty well too, so it might be bsd based too... I haven't tried hulu on my system yet, but most flash sites work pretty well so I'd be surprised if hulu doesn't work.

I think the whole notion of "you should be spending more time doing X" is kind of pointless. People do whatever they think is fun, especially for open source projects. Maybe you should be spending that time saving whales instead!

The main issue of the cuecat is that every time you needed to scan something, you wouldn't have your computer around to scan it. Plus the scanning on that cuecat thing was highly annoying, it didn't work on some types of packaging and it r

There are successful companies out there that don't adhere to the typical structure, and I'm glad to add another company to that list. For example, the 20,000 employees at Gore-Tex have no bosses, you're on a team. http://www.fastcompany.
