Isn't that a strawman argument though? The discussion is around engineers making the most out of their salary so why would be lump in folks with different education / jobs?

Without Prop 13, if you were paying the taxes you actually "should" on the true market value of your house, you would most likely be forced to move out of your current house. If that happened to enough people, prices would stabili

You will be making $200k+ in SF even in your early years, if you climb the corporate ladder you can get to $300k in 5 years. You can definitely sock away enough even without a 4% rate of growth to put away $1MM of after-tax money in 10-15 y

I don't think I understand what you're giving up in that 10% of your life. I'm living in a studio, have a parking spot, walk to work and go out with my coworkers/friends after work. What am I missing out on?

Too bad you depend on the bridge and the commute is hell. Taking BART in is also hell, unfortunately.

Why would you do that if your goal is to retire early? In 10-15 years in SV/NY you can earn $1MM after tax + growth and then move to a lower COL city/town and take it easy.

Your link still points to a house outside of Brisbane proper... how transit efficient is San Francisco outside of downtown? BART doesn't reach most of SF, MUNI is abysmal and buses...well, Brisbane has buses too. I think your assessmen

If you look at your link, you will see the address is (142 Elderberry Ln, Brisbane, CA 94005). Looking at the map ( https://goo.gl/maps/7kvttaK8z7F2 ), it's not even in Brisbane proper, so I think you're wrong

Brisbane is 6.5 miles from downtown SF ( https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=distance+downtown+san+... ) The entire peninsula is tiny, it's not fair to compare it to Zurich.

"Records exist about the consumption of long slices of raw fish as early as 500 BCE. Many others indicate that long before the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 CE), people with economic where-with-all ate many raw foods, not only raw fruits and

Not at all, I know a number of folks on H-1Bs, L-1s and other visas that are barely able to do their jobs correctly. I was just sharing an anecdote.

> doing full stack web Is there really an abundance of really qualified full stack web developers? I met a lot of incompetent US citizens claiming to be full stack devs.

That really wasn't clear to me from initially reading your post. Of course in those situations I would hope that a jury could pardon the responsibility of alimony if there was rape involved and the child is not wanted.

You said "For people paying alimony and child support, you must work or go to jail". How does that play into rape? I don't understand.

Were you forced into having that child in the first place? We don't need children for farm work anymore (in first world countries).

Thanks for the response. I agree that on the Canuck side we have a lot of untapped potential and people working very hard for very little money. I figured Garret was homesick :)

Like dkfmn said, it's surprising because most companies just adjust salaries to cost of living and try to get away with paying the least they can. I applaud your approach and would love to one day work for your company as it sounds lik

This will no longer be true as the divide in the GTA grows out of control. Canada has a very small population so you haven't noticed these divides yet but they will only get worse with time unless our government takes a serious stance

I think the recent crime/safety reputation its gotten is keeping people (like me) away. I wouldn't move to Detroit even if they paid me $150k, I just don't feel like the risk is worth it.

Except by "exporting" those units to foreigners you're not allowing communities to build and that's why you're seeing a huge divide in Toronto between folks. When I lived there, I felt there was a lot of hidden hatr
