Already mentioned, in julia just do rand(a). But if you didn't have that, couldn't you just switch out floor for ceil and have the exact equivalent for 1 based indexing?

You're absolutely right. I'll agree with the person you replied to as well though: displacing (at least some portion of) MATLAB use cases really would be a good goal for Julia. Personally, I managed to switch over 100% and Differe

Is this also a step towards easier screen sharing? The only reason I'm not on wayland is I occasionally need to screen share on Skype, zoom, and bluejeans.

It is a true fact, but it is not relevant to discussion, which I think I already made pretty clear. I don't actually care if you'd call it rationalist or not. Neither I nor the NYT are rationalist (either by hawkice's narrow

Didn't quite get out in time. Lost what is a lot of money to me, but very little to most people on HN. I think there is a weird dynamic with us complete investing noobs though. A lot of us are kinda poor, or at least in debt. The "

I really like this browser. The reason I don't use it is kind of silly: Scrolling with j/k works so much more nicely with vimium in firefox. It's such a small complaint, but it really is what is keeping me away.

I think there might be a lot of people here (my self included) that literally didn't know that about fireworks in modern parlance. It's because talking about fireworks just doesn't ever come up in my life. But I think "m

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. On the original topic, I actually think we agree for the most part. On the slightly broader topic of people complaining about names too much in general, I totally agree. I have a bad habit of pitting my self
