Why would faster turns require AGI? Assuming the position/velocity of the all nearby cars is known it's not a hard problem. Also even Tesla handles the obstacle in the road situation well. Their FSD beta will happily enter the lef

Level 2 varies dramatically by car maker. On the low end you have companies like Ford and Honda doing lane keep cruise control, and on the high end you have Tesla which does automatic lane changes, takes on/off ramps, and stops for tra

My takeaways: They're using transformers to persist occluded objects which is very cool. Path planning is done almost entirely without neural networks. The do have an optimization routine which runs on the car with cost functions for c

I saw this article years ago on HN and I can confirm I think of it every time I see a picture of a dead butterfly.

Presumably the vacancy tax would be tied to the value of the property. If the property really is worthless you won’t be paying taxes on it.

If no one wants to buy you drop the price until they do. Not saying it’s a good policy, but it would drive down real estate speculation and lower rent.

Apparently this is something Tesla is actively working on. Elon tweeted about it yesterday. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1416511905515048966?s=20

Bare metal Linux is much faster than Linux on windows in my experience. Also does nothing to address all the other windows rot like ads in the start menu and excessive telemetry.

I've been running Linux on my personal desktop for years now. Unless you want to play games or require it for work I'm not sure what advantages windows really has anymore. Linux is noticeably faster, has no ads, and is Unix based.

Also right to repair obviously can't apply to an implanted device. Those devices are hermetically sealed and disposed of after explant.

No choice in graphics API and no general purpose compute on the GPU. WebGL is a start but it's missing major features. If you want to build a competitive game engine or do any sort of machine learning on device then it has to be native

As someone who works on mesh importers and low level graphics programming that new spreadsheet feature is going to be incredibly useful for debugging UVs and edge indices.

Personal anecdote so take this as you will. I've recently been apartment hunting in Minnesota trying to move closer to work. Almost every property owner I've talked to has mentioned evictions and how they'll have apartments f

Google's gesture sensing went nowhere because it was laughably bad. It routinely failed to recognize gestures, was poorly integrated into the OS, and couldn't even be sold in several countries because of its use of radar.

I mean what would you expect it to do with that data? When a person hears a siren it's a signal to check their mirrors for emergency vehicles. Auto pilot doesn't need to check mirrors, it always has a 360 view of its surroundings.

I guess we haven't seen the same videos. I've watched many hours of FSD beta footage and if anything its excessively cautious. Not saying it never makes dangerous mistakes, but the mistakes I've seen it make seem solvable. Fo

Not in the short term for sure. I've been pretty impressed with the FSD beta videos circulating youtube though. It's better than you would expect for a non-geofenced, vision based self driving system.

Humans are proof that's its possible to safely drive a car with pure vision. Pretty sure no human has ever propulsively landed a rocket on earth using nothing but vision.

The radar chip shortage is pure speculation, no official word from Tesla on it. Seems to fit though as we know some M3 and MY were waiting on a part to ship. It's likely that Tesla was close to removing radar anyway and decided to acce

This is not true, Apple doesn't announce hardware at every WWDC but it's not uncommon. In 2019 they announced the updated Mac Pro and the Pro Display XDR. In 2017 they announced updates to the iMac, Macbook, Macbook Pro, iPad Pro,

Sounds kinda like the Wikipedia donation banner, expect they're asking for permission to track you rather than for donations. How bizarre.
