From this consumer's point of view he's wrong in saying everyone loses. I use Opentable a lot and I like not waiting for a table.

I think reversing a linked-list using recursion is a walk in the park compared to trying to understand patent/trademark law for software.

I'm not an apple fanboy but that's freakin cool. At work I unfortunately work with some Oracle products. No way in hell would Ellison ever call me up ;)

This reminds me of how Stallman's open source ideas have really shook up the software industry. I wonder what he thinks about all the recent turf battles with Java, Android, OpenOffice etc.

I don't disagree with anything you said. I'm just saying the sky isn't falling for the average developer that is using the JVM. We'll all be using XYZ technology, which hasn't been invented yet, in 3-5 years anyway. Google is the one with

Yea I can guess, that Java the language sucks. I'm just saying all these articles about the death or lameness of the JVM are not covering the big picture.

To you it is very relevant. I'm just saying let's clarify who has a dog in this fight. Believe it or not, I'm using Solr, Groovy and Clojure and in my eyes the (approved || sanctioned || blessed) JVM has never a better platform.

I would also add the question: If I'm running Java on the server to deliver Web services, who cares? It's still open source, I have no plans to distribute MyPersonalVM that can run Java. Google is the one that wants to keep it's advertisem

I agree. I also think managers with discipline and ok intelligence are better than managers that are really intelligent with little discipline. The disciplined managers focus on what needs to get done and do it. (The don't spend part of th

I sympathize with all the great Sun engineers that got a bad deal, but didn't Sun do poorly from an investor perspective? And isn't that important? As much as I really hate Oracle (I'm a programmer and don't like their products), they do r

I thought a while back that Google's Appengine could eventually compete with Oracle Database and Oracle Peoplesoft. As more people use Google Apps, Gmail and build custom apps on Appengine, they may start to compete with Oracle offerings.

JVM apps on appengine start up slow. I encourage anyone looking into using a JVM app on appengine to put together a simple app, wait 10 minutes after deployment, and then hit the url and see how long it takes to load. It bothers me that pe
