I'm a huge fan of Grails/Groovy. In general I prefer Ruby, but if you're in an environment with existing Java code and Java infrastructure, Groovy can be a great fit.

Fannie and Freddie bought a lot of subprime. I had friends that worked there and told me so and I've read about it. Over the long term Fannie made a lot of people rich. Read Beating the Street by Peter Lynch. He made a fortune off Fannie

Isn't he looping many times in this example. In an imperative language I would loop through the records once, find savings accounts, get balance and add to total - all in one loop.
