I don’t think people view going to an office as an answer. They view daycares and schools reopening as an answer.

Sounds like a case of survivorship bias at work here. How many revolutions led to failed societies that aren’t around any more?

This is so thoroughly depressing. There is a very real need for a debate about the place social networks have in the spread of misinformation, but no-one wanted to have it. Now we will anyway, but by debating it in the most hysterical terms

It’s been my experience that coworkers with butterfly keyboards either type nearly silently or incredibly loudly. I’m not sure it’s worth the trade off.

That’s not true at all. TV, and newspapers before that have inspired outrage when they expose wrongdoing for a very long time now. No, it’s not constant like social media, but it’s still been a powerful force. There’s a reason the printing

If you’re someone who needs total control over your device then why are you buying an iPhone? Jailbreaks get patched in OS releases so it’s only a matter of time before you lose control again. If you really care about control why wouldn’t y

“A device controlled by the owner” is one way of putting it. “A device capable of installing unverified software with an increased potential to introduce security vulnerabilities into the OS” is another.

There isn’t a huge crossover between desktop apps and mobile ones. If you’re making a mobile app and you want to make money, you want to be on iOS. It’s been documented plenty that iOS apps make a lot more money than Android ones do.

But it accurately describes a lot of use cases where something like Postgres (or MSSQL or even Oracle!) have been deployed because it’s what people assume is needed. It’s great to see accounts detailing how simple things can be.

You’re welcome to not use it. I don’t mean to sound overly negative but for small shops or individual developers there is simply no way for them to create a web, Mac and Windows version of their app at the same time. Personally, I’m glad th

Do you think that an informed population is a net positive or a net negative? I personally think the former, and I had a pool of spare cash lying around I might try to put money towards that effort.

...when did I suggest they did? Come on. What I'm saying is that it is not possible to have a conversation about the release of version 9 of Electron on this site. So far the thread has proved me right.

I've never used it, but DeskGap uses native OS webviews: https://deskgap.com/ Of course, downside there is you now need to handle cross-browser compatibility issues (particularly Internet Explorer on Windows)

That isn't a new phenomenon though, surely? The idea of leaving SF etc. and working somewhere remote for a better life balance has been a discussion for some time now.

I'm really curious to see how this actually pans out. As someone who enjoys remote work it's tempting to look at the situation today and say "finally! The fever has broken! Employers will realise how great remote work is!&quo

Speaking for myself, it won’t. In “normal times” I gave up video gaming because it didn’t feel like a good use of my time. When (if?!) things return to normal that’ll still be the case.
