you can use both. whenever I have some task to deal with data manipulation, i.e. fetch a json, map/filter/reduce on it, save it as some format, I reach for nushell. If it's just process management or day to day trigger of com

Why don't you think it's because of the tools those languages provide that helps them with the complicated problem?

I think they are talking about the cons of Go allowing zero value. Rust doesn’t have that problem.

how is that bad? You still have all the features until the opensource version and can fork it to your liking, no?

Because there's very little value added from Crystal compare to Go. So nobody's gonna sacrifice the huge ecosystem to move there.

> 500 lines of Go commonly translate to 50 lines of Crystal This is a vast exaggeration. And even if I grant it, it's still thousand of loc that you don't have to write because of available libraries.

The feature is named auto power on, and is supported quite widely. Search for wake on power might not show positive result.

ah if you shutdown your machine by OS, it stays off, and to remotely turn the PC on, I have to turn the smart plug off and on. So no problem with leaving the PC unplugged all the time.

My very simple solution is to use a smart plug and config the mainboard to wake on power.

Because type before name is simply worse in every metrics, hard to parse, hard to omit when infer (change to auto, var, etc), hard to grep for definition (hence the hack <type>\n<name>). Why do you care about the return type bef

Then it's still C++'s syntax, and Circle's syntax is still "ugly". Every modern languages adopt the "ugliness" style of type after name to solve most vexing parse, yet somehow C/C++ programmers are st

Yes, to learn enough system programming to be able to contribute in large scale production project, Rust is massively easier than other options. An intermediate programmer coming from other high level language can confidently contribute to

Logic bugs are far more common, yes, but also much easier to spot barring subtle edge cases. Whereas with memory unsafety, the reviewer must load every function's conditions and invariants to their brain to emulate the borrow checker,

Google has just literally put 1.5M lines of Rust code inside their Android runtime and reaping the benefits [0]. Is that pro Rust enough?. Sure not every project can migrate easily and they need to have a matching semantic language, that sa

Google put up 1.5M Rust LOC in Android runtime and seeing number of serious exploitations reduced, a single developer created a stable gpu kernel driver in only 3 months are definitely interesting results. Even in your example, firefox’s Ru

Maybe a data structure where you have an array of data and its hashed value, an eq implementation needs to go over the array to compare, but the ne implementation can short circuit by just comparing the hash. hash(a) != hash(b) => a != b

GP comment implied there would be fewer exploitable bugs. That is definitely what happens. If you think there's the same amount of severe exploit from software written in Go/Java/Javascript and software written in C/C++,
