Even with short TTLs, I often see Facebook mobile app users lingering for days(!) on the old IP in the logs, long after all other traffic is gone. I'm not really sure what's up with that, as no-one has ever reported the site not b

MHTML is basically equivalent to the MIME format used for email, especially when using rich text or embedding images. So you've definitely seen it in the wild, perhaps without knowing about it.. about every email is one.

Well, this might remove one argument against splitting the JS bundles too far. If you'll never benefit from eg. a shared JQuery library on a CDN anyway, might as well include a (reduced) version of it in your bundle.

A common problem back then with those caches back then was that in their common configuration they would limit the maximum upload size to a few megabytes... which would manifest itself as a broken connection when such an upload was attempte

vfork is perfectly predictable as long as you follow the basic rule: only invoke async-signal-safe functions until you call exec. they're explicitly listed but basically boil down to: any functions that more-or-less map directly to a s

One thing that's contrary to how XML is historically used but helps a lot.. do not use child elements where an attribute suffices: eg, don't do this, from the article: <Users> <User> <FirstName>Mich

But we can't always budget a nice configuration application. And once we've just put simple XML file there for configuration and we're past the prototyping phase... "well this actually works good enough, let it be".

See https://developers.google.com/docs/api/samples/output-json for what Google Docs does - basically separating markup from the text by using indices. which is probably the only way to properly deal with mark

XML is a actually wonderful format for data and especially extensible configuration if you combine it with XML Schema and CSS selectors... - XML schemas give you a ready-to-use format to describe, restrict and document available configurati

Even if the OS can take it, it requires proper engineering in your stack (ie, node.js here). it wasn't long ago that even managing 10K connections on a server was considered quite a feat - see http://www.kegel.com/c10k.

Exactly - poll `/status.json?at=${Date.now() - Date.now() % 5000}` and let the CDN worry about infinitely distributing state. (and make sure the CDN isn't caching 404s triggered by clients who are already in the future)

Fortunately, you can disable the wiki (and snippets!) on a per-project basis in at least Gitlab. Which is what we do on all our projects to ensure that everything goes through a single versioning flow.
