That’s not really the problem. The problem is much rather that there isn’t any awareness when those people actually do talk about those topics (or feel the need to for some stupid reason or other).

The problem is that it’s everywhere and at the top. I don’t mind racism that is filtered out (i.e. either heavily downvoted or deleted by mods) all that much. That’s exactly what makes Reddit attractive: It gets filtered in a good way. It j

One huge problem, though, is that shit (specifically racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fat shaming, ableism – oh, I guess that list really isn’t all that specific) tends to crop up everywhere. It’s a very reddity kind of shit. Encoun

Hm, I’m not sure whether it’s in Microsoft’s best interest to adopt Webkit. I think they will stay with their own rendering engine. But – as is already obvious – dominance is indeed no longer something they have, will realistically achieve

We are not interested in meanings here, we are interested in consequences. When it comes to battery life and slowing the OS down, quitting and suspending have exactly the same consequences: both don’t do it. You are making a distinction wit

Really? Really?! It’s correct. In almost all cases when you press the home button the app quits (i.e. gets suspended). End of story.

The point. You are missing it. He or she uses CSS for a job for which usually images are used. Hence his or her use of CSS is pure in that sense and it’s also written down that way. It’s not misleading in any way, shape or form. HN. A commu

It’s not. It’s pure CSS as defined explicitly on the page, i.e. no images used.

It’s worth watching the talk (linked in the article, but special pointing out seems appropriate): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUEvRyemKSg I like to call it the secret keynote of 28C3.

It’s a single essay. A single one. There is nothing that’s a judgment call about this. A failed class. That’s it.

The academic reaction should be failed class. I’m no native speaker. It really is this particular essay: We don’t have any evidence whatsoever for other plagiarized essays. Plagiarism in class homework is still plagiarism and pathetic. I ne

I don’t understand your lack of empathy. I agree: It’s a pathetic act of plagiarism and he should fail the class for it. If he didn’t, then his teachers made a serious mistake. If he could get away with it, then that’s pretty fucked up. If

That’s pretty horrible but also nothing new. Lego Scala (basically Barbie dolls from Lego, late 90s, early 2000s) was much, much worse†. What they are selling now are at least real and interesting Lego sets. You can actually build something

I think what you are doing is wrong. You shouldn't judge a person based on a single essay. Whatever you think about this particular essay, it's not deserving of this witchhunt. Edit: He should have failed the class and received a stern talk

If I do that in public there are laws and elected officials, there are courts and ways for me to appeal. A clear and explicit notification is always given and if not I can sue. Most importantly, some things I’m definitely and always allowed

That’s one view. It’s not the only view. In general you are, of course, correct. Constitutional rights only limit the government, not people or companies. It’s “Congress shall make no law …”, not “People and companies shall make no contract
