Or rather, they correctly determined that their opponents were totalitarians who fully intend to use their support for liberty to destroy them, and are acting accordingly. This is kind of like finding someone who supports non-violence, phys

Since when is there pollution inside homes from gas stoves? How have all of the millions of gas stove users been cooking multiple meals with them on a daily basis and nobody noticed this supposed pollution?

The issue I have with such studies is they focus on "gun-related injuries or deaths". Has any study ever shown an overall decrease in deaths or injuries from any type of gun control legislation?

We should remember the reason why it was created - to replace decisions for approvals on loans, mortgages, apartment rentals etc being made by low-level individuals for a variety of arbitrary reasons. Many places made such decisions based o

The benefit of web searches, and trouble with LLMs, is you can see the site that an answer is on and judge the credibility based on that. If I see that the answer is on Reddit ELI5, then I know that there's no assurance about how accur

Reminds me of an apartment complex I used to live at that had a really long walk from where my place was to the dumpster. I'd put anything that was significantly awkward to carry in my car for the trip. I knew a few people who moved al

Anecdotally, that's not my experience with Windows these days at all. I've never had the whole system freeze up on my Win10 desktop. Never noticed a slowdown or app that can't be killed, and never done a reformat or rebuild.

Remote work is fine in some circumstances. One of the circumstances where it is definitely not fine is in designing, manufacturing, and testing high-precision aerospace hardware. You aren't gonna put a 5-axis CNC mill in your garage.

"Funding" isn't really a good answer IMO. I don't know a ton about Fusion research specifically, but NASA is horrifically inefficient with money compared to private competitors. Giving them more money won't magicall

I agree with this - I always found the single ! in conditionals to be too easy for your eyes to slide past and miss. Using `unless` makes it jump out harder that you're only doing the thing if the condition is `false`.

B52 seems a little overpriced. I'd think you'd want something like a C-47/DC-3 - enough room to walk around in, shower, cook, etc, but hopefully not too crazy expensive to operate.

The strange thing about the thumb drive world - I can remember getting my first one in the early 2000s, capacity of 4MB or so I think. The odd part is I have no clue what brand it was, where I got it from, or how I heard that they existed.

I've been around the tech world for a few decades. This sentiment has often been repeated about things like this, but I no longer believe that it's viable. The tech world is just too fast-moving, which means there's not reall

I don't know that I'd call this evil. We have no idea who else is using this kind of technology but not making the results public. Better to know what's possible and take measures to make it less effective.

I wonder what's a reasonable threshold for "probably the same person". I've never had an alt on HN, and when I searched myself, it found 3 other users above 0.6, none of whom I've ever heard of before.
