The code is certainly very short, but what about \u escape sequences in strings, parsing different representations of numbers, etc.? Since those things are part of the JSON standard, you're not a JSON parser if you just leave them to the ap

A theme for Ubuntu that makes it look a little bit like OS X. Why is this on the HN front page? Why ?

Unfortunately that just gets me a helpful "Journaling could not be enabled". I guess something got messed up when I was writing to the volume from Linux.

Linux doesn't currently support writing to journaled HFS+ volumes.

I don't suppose anyone can comment on whether Mountain Lion has done anything for the mouse lag issue[1]? I can't upgrade yet because I disabled HFS+ journaling and nothing seems to be able to re-enable it (the installer requires journaling

It's funny - GNOME 3 looks great but doesn't do what you want it to do, while KDE 4.x looks god awful yet is the most full featured of any of the desktops. I wonder when they'll realize that those intrusive glow effects are just not cool an

The frustrating thing about so many usernames being taken on Twitter is that while new accounts are having to add numbers and underscores, most of the time the name they want is just a ghost account from 2008 with 0 tweets. Twitter should r

It's pretty horrible if you lose a hand-made instrument, because even if it was insured, you're never going to play something that plays exactly the same again. (This happened to me a few weeks ago with a flute.)

Same thing happens with a guitar if you leave it without strings or heavily detuned. The neck can begin to warp and become very easy to break.

Not just Google's servers, but any server where SPDY is available (e.g. Twitter). This is handy: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/spdy-indicato...

If they really wanted to do the right thing, they'd have just given up and used WebKit.

That certainly helps, but it's not quite enough: http://d43.me/blog/1205/the-cause-for-all-your-mac-os-x-mous... I suppose when I said "mouse acceleration" I really meant "mouse lag".

It's a shame xorg doesn't support IOKit any more. If it did, you'd be able to run an X server (not rootless) on OS X without having to boot a different kernel. XQuartz is nice, but you're still subject to the OS X mouse acceleration etc.

iOS may be one of the most blatant examples of what he's describing, but Apple are not. For all the eye candy of OS X, it's still the only mainstream operating system where a bash shell is just a click away.

I don't think Apple would have a problem making iOS run on x86 if they wanted to. That's pretty much what the iOS simulator does already.
