I think putting out fires is a great start for an interim CEO. It's kind of the job description.

In this context, I believe it's safety of releasing AI tools, and the impact they may have on society or unintentional harm they may cause.

I've found this true for a lot of unexpected things. It makes sense in the end, but is a little unintuitive at first that lots of deadlifting completely fixed some crippling back pain I was going through at one point.

This was a very pleasant surprise for me when I moved to Norway.

How so? Isn't this quite dependent on country? As far as I understand here in Norway, there are no costs associated with University.

Anecdote time, but I moved from a decent (non-FAANG) tech salary in the US to a (locally) good salary in Norway, and feel better off as a result. In outright terms my salary took a huge hit, but there are so many little things in the US tha

Healthcare in the US is super uneven. I had longer wait times for appointments in the northeast than I do here in Norway now with the public system. You can get really lucky in the US and have a great experience, but you can also have reall

It's very very easy to keep the sql alongside models and other business logic. SqlAlchemy lets you drop down to fairly complex sql while remaining in Python, and will even take in a direct sql query as well. The added complexity has al

When I've worked with datasets that size, the common operations tend towards the analytic or bulk operations, IME. That's not the sweet spot for an ORM, and SQL will often make a lot of sense. But, and again this is my experience,

Update state isn't quite the same, though -- take the word counting example. That's not easily solvable as far as I can tell.

It's hard to overstate the environmental carnage a cruise ship creates. They sometimes wake up our kid with their horns. I'm suspect about the real economic impact they have, most people seem to use hop on hop off busses, mill aro

I think that's the point -- it's nearly as useless to call throw/catch a rebranded goto as it is anything else.

Oil industry is about 6% of Norwegian employment. For sure, it's a huge part of Norway and shouldn't be overlooked, but it's specious to compare it directly to a country like Saudi Arabia.

I've gone this path with audio. Spent some time and effort on a good system (nothing crazy, but I was happy), had to move, just got a sonos system for convenience and because placement of speakers was hard in our new place. Can definit

Right I'm just suggesting per capita isn't necessarily the best way to talk about how important oil is to Norway's economony.

Best I can find is about 17% of GDP in Norway is from Oil and Gas. While that per capita number is high, it's not Saudi Arabia levels.

> We all know that if you have money, you can just throw in more servers. Definitely not true at Facebook scale. You need to be smart, fast, _and_ throw more servers at it.

That's fine in a vacuum, but I feel like you'd very quickly run into the need for a security update, or some external API that changes, etc. You can't ignore all externalities, usually.
