Hopefully this will also apply to fodder for the farmed fish that is produced with soy from the rain forest but I highly doubt it. The farmed fish lobby here is strong. Edit: Yeah I see this is from 2016. They are indeed still using soy fro

Most have SSD drives now that trims the space on delete. Not sure how easy it is to mark regions on the SSD for "undelete" when it has been trimmed. In some cases the deleted region of the drive may even be mapped to another place

Firefox on Arch Linux with a Vega 64 card + i7 4770k @ 3.5 ghz: CPU: 0.955s ±0.5% GPU: 0.003s ±4.3% (295.22 times faster!) Seems like decent speedup. It's a bit scary to have a web page have access to my GPU memory though, how does tha

This "ship all libraries in the package" approach is also quite scary, you never know if an app will use your patched local libraries or use an ancient library with lots of exploits. Double so for anything exposed to the internet.

I thought Java was both a language and a virtual machine target. You can compile programs written in other languages for it's VM like Clojure.

But if this is to be a "universal" binary it has to interface with the OS, the DE and other native programs not just the browser. If not you will end up with Swing type libraries that look very off compared to native applications.

This is Java 2.0 isn't it? "Write once, run everywhere". I wonder how one would solve linking to native libraries and the like through this. I still prefer just having the application source code available so one can compile

One of the reasons for the cheap rent is the fact that the population of Berlin is still below what it was prior to WWII. I found it quite baffling at least when I read about it. The city got hit _hard_

But if the US government access PII without authorization via the cloud act wouldn't it count as a data breech when it comes to GDPR?

Yes, that is why you use azure stack and not azure. It's a licensed version of the software that you can run completely independent of Microsoft.

Banking data is at least considered to be "important" enough to keep within the borders too, but privacy is important too in regards to GDPR. How do you prevent unauthorized access to the data (i.e. the US government) with the clo

So far it seems that a the "sender" field in the email is enough.. I suspect they would do it with a reply-to: header as well so yes many are probably leaking in this way. It's a bit different for the companies that operate u

As of today we have cloud offerings of for instance azure completely separate from the US companies due to this. Here in Norway we can get the complete azure offering from a company called Evry using azure stack [1] and there is a data cent

That statement has become my no. 1 cue to leave the site immediately, or rather the "We value your privacy". Yeah, you value it so much that you sell it on because it is actually valuable. I wonder what the tracking cookies show a

I'll take an example for my local store. We have some Belgian waffles that cost 18 NOK a piece. They always have an offer that gives you 2 for 20 NOK. I never eat more than one of these and they end up spoiling as they don't last

Exactly.. A good way to get around this is to keep a "wishlist" of things you actually need and then if there is a sale you can get it.

There is not a specific black/white for this but if you have to ask you are usually on the wrong side. For cases like this it's much easier to evaluate it case by case.

In my country, marketing to children is illegal period. They have no monetary concept. Coca-cola was recently found guilty of this in the "food industry self governing organ" in Norway [1]. This is where complaints go first and if

GDPR requires that you log when you use information from a user in models, reports etc so this would probably have to be logged and disclosed. You would also need explicit concent to use the date of birth for advertising purposes.

For real DIY audio on PC, try the covox. It's a resistor based "dac" for the paralell port that we used to build as kids too before we could afford a proper sound card. You could also buy a commercial version if you didn'
