I find it interesting that so many people here are quick to defend a person’s right to moonlight on whatever they want, and the right of a person not to have their IP stolen by the company they work for. But when it’s a public figure sudden

I came here to say that $200/hour is only "extremely conservative" in very few and small geographic parts of the world. Where I'm from (in a large city in the US) this number would be described as extravagant. I've

That’s a general tenet of all religions rooted in Judaism. OT—-“No one is righteous, no, not one.”—and later in NT Romans—-“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The inadequacy and even brokenness of man is what necessita

I think self-preservation probably plays a role here, too. If you think management will just fire you and hire someone who will claim they can build it in Unity, then maybe you decide this isn’t the hill you want to die on.

Yeah, I agree it doesn’t fit well in any of the usual accounting boxes. But I think that’s the point, right?

I wasn’t trying to make that argument, but I were I would argue that software itself is more like a liability, or, at the most, a current asset[0]. Source code has no inherent value, and in fact the more you have the more expensive it is. [

I think the obvious implication is that software development is expensive, ongoing and tends to result in relatively short term ROI, and therefore the amortization schedule of 5 years increases the likelihood smaller business will never col

Oh, well if _that’s_ all it’ll take… you may as well stop talking or worrying about it and just enjoy your life since nothing short of a global extinction event will make a dent.

https://naprun.dev Nap is a command-line API testing tool that uses YAML files. I wrote it because I couldn’t find anything equal to it. I use it at work to help our QA folks build test suites for our back-end services.

Yep, this is a big reason I pulled all my wife's old blogs out of WP and moved them into static sites. The reduced (removal of, really) threat model alone has been so worth it.

Well you don't have to use that passage to know that's exactly what the Bible teaches--"For all have sinned..." Rom 3:23. Or, later in the same letter, Paul speaks about his own struggles: “For I know that nothing good d

Definitely, though not as polished or stable as the CLI spec at the moment--the CLI code all sits in one package and calls into the others. The logic to execute a run is all shown in cmd/run.go, but I agree an example might help illust

I love me some Kent Beck, and I know your comment was tongue-in-cheek, but I doubt he was interviewed for this article. 1 month for that kind of a product is short enough that it’s either a clerical error or someone is BSing big time.
