I guess I wasn’t specifically trying to use 3 words but more just demonstrate that 10 decimal digits is about as simple as it gets in terms of clearly being able to communicate with that much precision over a low quality connection.

I feel like we could just boil this down to a math problem? Classic lat long uses, what? 10 decimal digits? Grouped into 2 sets of 5? Switching to base 26 can only really eliminate 1 digit from each set. That alone should make it pretty cle

I have been down both roads. I’ve seen unwieldy abstractions reduce a codebase down to a giant pile of edge cases, and I’ve seen codebases where making a single change to the design has required editing dozens of files. Where I’ve ended up

Our kids have all been diagnosed with FASD, but in our state at least that isn’t enough to qualify for specialized care. Not that it matters a ton, because we would still be fighting the other bullet points. We can get scholarships through

I’ve found SSR is best when it’s just _one_ way data might be loaded in an app. If I use SSR at all it’s to initialize a page. You’re right that you need a separate API either way. I would think of the SSR host as a backend specifically for

If my wife and I were to put our 4 special needs kids into public school it would result in them having a bunch of unbelievably negative experiences: - they would NOT receive a quality education or be taught to be self-learners. - they woul

This is available in the US, but you make the choice based on the facility, typically. You can have the more medicalized experience at a hospital, or you can do home birth and hire a doula to assist, or you can go to a birthing center, whic

If done right, self check-out is awesome. When I shop at BJs I arrange everything in my cart with its barcode visible as I shop. Then I go use one of the “10 item or less” checkouts that had a handheld scanner and count my items, then scan

IME consulting is where you can really win in a market like this. Especially moonlighting. If you can find an extra 10 hours per week reliably to work on something you can easily supplement your income by $60k or more. It’s not guaranteed t

It’s also out of range for most people outside of SV. There are definitely jobs paying $180k where I am (Southeast US), but they aren’t anywhere near entry-level and also aren’t abundant.

The thing about parenting advice is it’s usually just tailored to whatever worked for some random person’s kids. What if you (as my wife and I have) adopted 4 kids over the course of 8 years, all with FASD who are all insane in different wa

From an academic perspective, sure? I guess? But most things done in the name of academia are for the purpose of learning, so the goals are different. If your goal is to build a PRODUCT this is stupid advice. You really want to stop once yo

It’s interesting to me to see this comment, because “today” is very much the focus in recovery circles. If you’ve ever been to AA or any of the other 12-step programs you’ve probably heard someone say something akin to “one day at a time”.

Saying “hi” back implies that I have time to listen to you right now. Maybe I don’t, or maybe I’d like to wait to decide until I know what you want. And it’s not always “hi” anyway. I used to have one of our C-levels DM me on Slack almost d

That’s the point—it’s ambiguous. It’s better to use more words to indicate what you’re saying hi for than to try and force me to acknowledge you by hiding your reasons up front. That is a form of manipulation.
