Or even just update the blog post repeatedly like it was a tweet. At least at the end it wouldnt have horrible ux

Thanks. Fascinating article.

Also every 2 seconds twitter has a full screen popup saying to use the app or to sign up or that I have been rate limited.

Does anyone have the link that turns a twitter thread in to a blog post? This is unreadable.

What would transfer ownership even mean? Its open source, anyone can continue maintaining it without asking permission.

Which isn't even that bad of an idea. Some website basically use this as the only way to log in.

The majority of patents are for things that are essentially obvious and would have been replicated if not publicly released. If you put a bit of hardware or software out then people will reverse engineer it and know how it works pretty soon

Really? When I'm in public I see everyone mindlessly swiping through photos on Instagram. Social media never died, it just moved.

I shaved the tip of a toothpick with a knife and that worked fine.

Currently my desktop keyboard, ereader and OP-1 have mini USB. Guess I'll be stuck with it for a long time

Could say the same about anything. Should we ignore the reality that people like to steal things and make it illegal even though some still will?

Having to make a payment to join a website is maximum friction and makes your website seem dodgy. It seems more likely they are trying to steal cc details by asking for such a small payment.

It also seems to be a problem unique to location. I have never in my life received a robo call in Australia but I did start to get sales calls until I put my number on the do not call list.

New technology has opened up new possibilities far beyond what your word of mouth example has. Megacorps are sucking up data on a mass scale and using it for evil such as manipulating elections, tricking you in to buying stuff and reporting

Because it causes every website to non stop nag you with captchas and half of websites to change time zones to something not useful for you.

The top contributer has 500 commits since 2015. Its clearly a side project so $24,000 per year for a side project is very nice especially if you live somewhere with a good cost of living.

My point was I don't need my browser injecting extra ads that I get paid for.
78.
by tty2300 7y ago
That's a pretty good amount to be making. Should easily pay for the time spent maintaining the project.

I get paid for working a job. I don't want any ads on my screen.

I tried something similar with a 40w panel, 9ah 12v lead acid battery and a raspberry pi. Unfortunately the RPI would always drain the battery to empty each night which I think trashed the lifespan of the battery. Now I just use it to charg

Yeah, a lot of the stuff I have listed is stuff I don't mind owning but if someone wanted to offer the right price I would let go of them.

I don't think that its that robots can't do these jobs but more that underpaid illegal migrants can pick strawberrys for cheaper than a robot setup and maintaince can.

by tty2300 7y ago
The price of stuff is just so cheap now. I can go out and buy just about any luxury item I want while hardly thinking about the price but it would take me a decade to buy a house if I spent $0 each year.

Sell or give away before throwing away. I have listed a bunch of stuff I don't particularly want on eBay it costs me nothing and often someone near by eventually finds it and wants it. I recently sold something I listed in 2017.

By default the button is set to use voice controls with your phone. The app let's you make it do anc controls

I used the app breifly when setting mine up before deleting it. The 2 things I used it for was updating the firmware and remapping the voice control button to instead change the noise canceling amount.

This is exactly why I refuse to use an app for setting up hardware. Bose pushes really hard to get you to use an app for something that really doesn't require an app.

Our electronics run on next to no power but then we throw them out constantly and buy new onea because some marketing department said we should.

What is not fine is the fact that social media companies have spent years using dark patterns and tricks to get us to publish more and more of our info publicly. It used to be common knowledge that you never post any of your real life detai
