Food addiction is for sure one reason for obesity, but the last few decades or so of research has really challenged the “you’re fat because of personal accountability” assertion. The single best read out there on the topic, for the layman l

I’m not sure I take from this what your complaint is. You don’t like the way that it looks? Or reads? Or is there a functional complaint I’m missing? It looks like a pretty standard builder pattern to me. It may help if you give examples. W

I made an effort to look into this at one point, and discovered that that there are actual rules prohibiting discussing it on the normal communication channels. Made it seem like troubleshooting was going to be way more difficult than it wa

I’d be interested in a debate club, but social media has yet to provide me with one. Debates really require a good faith attempt to assert and defend a position, where social media swings heavily towards a popularity contest where the loude

I’m all in on Nix (the package manager) today and use it across multiple Linux and Mac machines to handle my configs and most of my app installs. That said, I still find nix difficult to understand and learn, and when I get stuck on somethi

I lost my dad to prostate cancer last year with much the same timeline. Healthy as could be, out surfing and building decks and shit one day, dead a year later. Cancer sucks.

Lemmy is good to me today after a few rough starts. My personal recommendation: stay away from lemmy.ml (needlessly political), lemmygrad (racist and hateful from an outside observation), and beehaw.org (had high hopes here but seems like i

If you were a teenager in the 90’s and had the faintest idea of what anime was you knew about bubblegum crisis. It was about as mainstream as mainstream gets. You could buy posters for it in like every video store in the mall. It’s old but

In theory I agree that managers should be able to man the trenches with the rest of the team. In practice, I’ve found that to be detrimental rather than helpful. I miss coding, I _want_ to jump in and knock out a ticket from time to time, b

The common thinking is that shit comes from above, usually around the C- level. What I’ve learned from being an engineer manager for a very large company is that shit comes from every direction, basically all the time. Up, down, side to sid

Do you know 80% of managers in all of tech? Seems like a grandiose claim to make without any solid backing. Twitter is not all of tech.

Bad managers do exist, but painting every manager as useless is a bit short sighted. A good manager is your shit shield. They’re doing their job well when you have no idea how much work they’re putting in to minimize the amount of bullshit

Regarding disabling loading the .envrc from direnv, it works from an allowlist instead. The first time you cd into a directory with a .envrc you are prompted to `direnv allow` before it will take any action.

I just adopted lazygit after comparing lazygit, tig, and gitui for a few days each. I’m surprised by your take because tig seemed the least user friendly and most complicated of the three by a large margin.
