For those of you who want to learn more and don't want to waste money on a finance text book, check out Aswath Damodoran's website. Pretty much everything you need to know about valuation finance can be found there, along with a

Yes, that sounds like a terrible idea - unless the CTO and his gang were very self-aware and made sure they integrated themselves into the team. Which it sounds like they did not.

It sounds like your describing a consulting firm. The problem of hiring individuals to join the firm still exists though. Although I like the approach you propose more than the "dump a bunch of resumes" approach.

Not necessarily. It probably means they just overhired, which is a problem at a lot of companies. They could just plan to get more out of a lower staffing level, this was fairly common in the "re-engineering" triggered layoffs of

OK, I was skeptical of this before I looked at it (do we really need another way to discover events). But I like what I see. One peeve: why are webcasts and teleclasses included? I can't imaging a use case where these items will be se

I agree with the above. This seems like a "neat to have", but not a huge productivity enhancer. I'm seeing more and more apps like this. It's telling me that a lot of the low-hanging fruit has been picked in this techn

I don't know if there's much that Gates can do about corruption. That's something that might have to take it's natural course and weed itself out (like it has partly done in the US and other developed nations). In the m

Secession and federalism are fairly naive. We already tried those solutions. In the US context it led to slavery and ultimately to a massive armed conflict. And at what unit do we consider secession acceptable? The Confederacy believed s

From an investor perspective this reminds me of the type of company Warren Buffet would invest in (if he invested in tech). Steady, focused, easily understood. Highly useful product. The only thing I quibble with is the knock against ente

Yes to this. Musk is brilliant, but more in the Henry Ford sort of way than the Einstein/Tesla sort of way. And that's not to diminish him. To the contrary, we need more visionary industrialists than scientists/engineers.
