Whatever your feelings on mono is, it's hard to debate the closing statement of that article: "The Java community has taken Linux for granted," Hargett said. "The assumption is, 'What else is Linux going to do for managed code?'

While I can see your point, my approach is more of a middle way. I use a up to date standard compliant browsers like Firefox 3.5 when developing sites, but I keep the my CSS restricted to what I expect will be supported in MSIE. If I go ove

This isn't meant to be my view, this is how the internet is viewed by the average non-techie. That would be a non-techie in the US. Outside the US, people have to deal with more TLDs, more people are multilingual and hence exposed to more

I guess all those .no, .de, .it, .se, .dk and all those other national TLDs just represent pretend-sites then. Not to belittle you, but you seem to have an incredibly Americanized and introverted impression of how people percieve DNS names.

First of all. Sometimes we comment because we honestly think you've raised a point worth debating and discussing. I'm sorry for responding to you like you wanted a debate, instead of assuming you were a prick. In that case, I guess I read

What do I care for in a browser ? Prettiness? If it blends in with the native look of the OS, that is "pretty" to me. Safari fails at this. Firefox does not. Speed? I have a Core i7 idling at 1% CPU all the time, unless I'm doing HD video

What's with the defensive attitude? I'm saying that things being pretty is not my primary concern when looking for development tools. It's OK if they are pretty, but that's pretty far down on the list of things I care for. As for Safari's

Indeed. Sounds very much backwards to me. If anything, stuff developed to work with the restricted CSS-support in older MSIE versions (MSIE8 is actually not that bad) has a much higher chance of rendering correctly in Firefox, Opera and Saf

According to the author that just means that you are using the wrong OS for web development, because despite how the world wide web is supposed to be platform independent, there is only one OS for web development</sarcasm>. Besides

So basically what you are saying is that google plan to "embrace and extend" the web? While this may be a step which is required to bring the web as a platform forwards, I'm not sure I like the sound of that either.

How does a preference in games (or, more likely, choosing a game absolutely everyone would know about for a sarcastic remark) in any way relate to technical knowledge?

This had me laughing: The canonical example of failure in tech journalism is TechCrunch, a blog that once declared Google's MapReduce to be a system that "reduced the links found on the web into a map that search algorithms could run over.
