Datacenter water usage exploded over the last year… “Here, look how much water gets used by everyone flushing their toilets.” I don’t even care about that comparison. They’ll do whatever they’re going to do. But throwing around random numbe

HN Thread with a whataboutism comment as top voted? Must be the datacenter water thingy again. It's always a rhyme of the same comment.

Your hand waving doesn't make it knee-jerk. It's just what happened to his writing since COVID. He goes for more of a shock and awe style and not everybody likes it. He's been writing for over 20 years now, hasn't he? Hi

Because at some point in life everyone gets tired of fairytales. He started mending the anecdotes to his content which always rubs people the wrong way.

And yet seeing the exact same comment repeated over and over in every thread with an ai generated website is even more verbose. I find it even worse at least the website can contain new information.

The only factual point you made is solved on February second. All Model providers have to provide offline tooling to check for invisible watermarking.

You can learn remotely in his class. That's the whole point he is trying to make. Hybrid does not mean fully remote. If you want fully remote take a full remote class.

Downvote me all you want. China is doing something right. Nuclear, renewables, whatever the mix, they're not parking gas turbines next to a data center and calling it a power strategy. That US tech companies reached for that first tell

There is just not shortcut to acquire a skill worth having. I don't understand your argument.

I am lost they have training videos, they have a reading list, they have tutorials... everything you need to get started. How else would you acquire skills? There is no upload function yet.

If I don't recognize that it's AI and it helps me understand the article I am fine with it. Generative AI images don't need to be slop even if most of them are.

I don't know how viable it is in the future but right now you can just unplug the wireless module (ioniq 5 2024 for me). I have wired carplay so I don't know if bluetooth would be killed as well.

I had fun and also learned a lot when I retyped programs from magazines back in the day. I am not sure if it's suitable now but there is certainly some merit to the idea.

I always thought of the Pelican more of like a gimmicky quick test. There are people who took it as a serious benchmark for overall model performance?

I hate these headlines. It's not generative ai that floods the market for books. It's people using Generative AI to flood the market. It's always the same something gets attributed to technology while it's people doing i

If you want to use a service that is age restricted either by law or the company providing it how else would you do it? It's the same IRL. I don't like it as well and we certainly lived through the wild wild west times in the 90s
