From the article: >I’m specifically addressing the epidemic of smart assholes that are actually good at their jobs, at least on paper . There are plenty of smart arseholes, who can do their job well (if they wanted) but prefer to be an

Slight quibble. Laws can be broad and imprecise and some might argue, trivial. e.g. > To prove a breach of the peace, the most important things to prove are that someone was alarmed, annoyed or disturbed by the incident.[1] https:/

> get a few interns Pretty much agree, but not sure Internships are the best way to do it. Expecting people to work for no pay means you only get those that can afford to work for no pay. I remember an article on HN from few years ago, a

it says: "It looks like you're visiting Track This on your phone. Please use Desktop to activate your persona. Trust us, you don't really want to open 100 tabs on from your phone in any case."

I believe peat use is rare in the malting for Irish Whiskey. More common in Scotland but still not the majority. But presumably you could burn other fuel and get a similar result. The traditionalists would be grumpy though.

> hypocrisy was at the bottom That surprises me given the furore around the likes of Michael Gove admitting to taking drugs[1]. Seems like a politician can lie, steal and manipulate without much complaint, but hypocrisy is a major sin. (

I was wondering about this. The majority of my emails are between myself and a business, currently letting google track my purchases, holidays, event booking etc by reading the responses I get. If I stopped using gmail, how would they track

I remember this being a common belief back in the 90s. At school I knew a guy who was good at maths, obsessed with computers (as in often knowing more than the teachers) but was rejected from the computing course (until his parents complain

Given it's a federated service, I doubt many mastadon users will know or care that much. Those that run servers might choose to blacklist them, making them all but invisible.

I've always though it would make sense to outsource home style cooking to specialists who can cook in bulk much cheaper (and often higher quality) than individuals can cook at home. I'm surprised that Polish 'Milk Bar'[1

Social mobility requires a lot of work and money and time. How would you get a mortgage on a house, or save for your kids' education if any wealth you accrue risks getting re-allocated? (Guess it depends on your value of X)
